I am going to start looking for a new refrigerator and would like all your opinions on the one you have. What brand do you have? Do you like it or hate it? Have you had any problems with it? How old is it?
After yesterday's fiasco I wrote about in The Official Day in Pictures Thread, I decided to start the painstaking task of looking at new refrigerators. We decided that if this one isn't working well enough and before it happens again, we'll get a new one. Neither one of us want to do a repeat.
So give me all your refrigerator input! I'd be most grateful.

I won't bother describing our refrigerator and our experience. I'll just say that it's a French door with bottom freezer made by Whirlpool. It's been OK, but we wouldn't buy it again, and probably not Whirlpool.

I had a Samsung 24.6 bottom freezer that I absolutely loved.
Every now and then I think of that fridge and really hope it is being loved

We have a Whirlpool with French doors and bottom freezer and water/ice dispenser in one door on the outside. No problems. We’ve had it a year or two. I like how both the freezer and refrigerator shelves are placed. Love the water/ice dispenser on the outside. Has an internal water filter.

We have the old standard style with no bells and whistles, it came with the house.
Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, KitchenAid, pretty much they are all made in the same manner anymore. I’ve heard quite a lot of trouble with LG. They have a goofy compressor called a “linear” compressor that I would stay away from.
ETA my wife’s uncle has a bottom freezer French door unit that also has a Kuerig in the door, lol.

My BIL goes through fridges. He has done a lot of research. It seems that the old fridges that lasted 30 years or more are now called "industrial". They cost more, but they will last. We have an old reconditioned one that is prolly 20 years old now and I don't know how old it was when we got it, but it works great. It's a Magic Chef.
If I have to buy again, I'm buying industrial. Things are just not made the way they used to be... planned obsolescence.

Exactly what Tela said. They all come with a 6-8 year shelf life now. If that. All about features, bells whistles, and energy saving and longevity doesn’t really register.

Planned obsolescence, Tela is right. I saw a show on this once, how light bulb manufacturers got together way back when because they weren't selling enough light bulbs. The reason why? They were lasting too long. So they changed how they were made. And guess who pays in the end, boys and girls? Anyway, here's a light bulb that's been burning since 1901 if you haven't heard of it... www.centennialbulb.org/Sorry, hummingbirdstones- I'm not trying to derail, promise!

Currently have a plain Maytag with bottom freezer (really do prefer the freezer on the bottom), and it is going strong after about a decade. Given the lifespan of appliances, I'll also be looking for a potential replacement.
I'm personally not a fan of the French door type due to too much seal area that can go bad - although I like the idea that their narrower doors don't block as much in front when open, I'd prefer that they opened into 2 compartments instead of 2 doors opening onto one compartment. I also prefer the bottom freezer to be a drawer, though that does result in an inch or two of wasted space taken up by the sliders. I absolutely loved the build on the Subzero built-in, until it came to the amount of power it sucked up - it did make a noticeable difference each month, so do compare those energy usage stickers. GEs and Frigidares were ok, but nothing extraordinary. Definitely go for lots of LED interior lights - really does make a big difference (if you go to a showroom, bring a bunch of brown paper bags to put on the shelves to see how well the lighting will do once you get it home stocked with food).

Ours is pretty standard, too (I really don't need all the fancy stuff - more things to break down). I've heard the same about LG refrigerators. Funny thing is, I bought LG front loader washer and dryer when Vince and I got married. It's been 10 years now and I haven't had a lick of trouble with either of those.
A Kuerig in a fridge? LOL! We have a 14 cup Cuisnart that works just fine, especially since we both drink coffee 24/7. I'd go broke with a Kuerig.

Boy, you have that right. I'm going to have to figure out if I can fit an industrial fridge in my space. I'd love to have a Sub-Zero or Wolf or something like that, but they may be too big.

Thanks for the comments, r2d! I have the plain Maytag, too with the bottom freezer. I do like the freezer being on the bottom. Saves one from a concussion if the freezer is stuffed and a frozen roast falls on your head. I really like the suggestion about the LED lights. Hadn't thought of that at all.
