Hi everyone, I am looking for advice on how to best polish petosky stones. I know they are soft, calcite. I have a Thumbler tumbler, quart sized I think, with 2 barrels. Should I use the course grit for only a day or two? Any advice on how to get the best results would be much appreciated!

No, I don't. I vacation periodically near Sleeping Bear Dunes/Glen Arbor/Leland area. We find pretty many walking the beach in this area.

Glad I found you! We've been staying at Sugar Loaf each october for over ten years, and have quite a collection. I'm researching tumblers, do either of you have any recommendations? Also, for tumbling materials, I found this: www.cyberrockhound.com/Lapidary_Polishing_Powders.htmRapid Polish #61 Ideal for Jade and Petoskey Stones! & the best vib tumbler polish!!!! $9.25 $39.75 1 LB 5 LB So, I'm leaning towards a vibratory tumbler. I'm looking edmund scientific, do you have another store you've used?

Oops! So THAT'S what happened to my petosky stone. I had placed one among my agates and set them on coarse five days ago. When I checked them for recharging a couple of hours ago, I could have sworn that the p/s was a lot bigger. I thought my imagination was playing tricks! What was left of the stone got very well rounded though. Thanks for the tip and helping me save the remnant! ralph
