Hi everyone, I am very happy to have found this forum. I am very new to Rock Tumbling. I collected some nice beach rocks while on vacation this summer and we thought they might look nice when polished. So, I bought a small hobby tumbler and tried my first batch.
I knew nothing so I just put a bunch of rocks together, not realizing the different hardness. Some shrunk to tiny sizes, but more than a few of the harder ones turned out really beautiful, so now I am very keen on learning more about the process and make my next batches better.
I am from Toronto, Canada.

Hi from Baltimore, Maryland. I did exactly the same thing with my first tumbler batch earlier this year. Could not believe how small some of the rocks got...still trying to learn from my mistakes...welcome to the forum...Rocket

Welcome from the Desert Southwest!
Thanks for sharing your tumbling story! I started out the same way. It's pretty amazing how polished rocks can look. Now I have small piles of tumbled rock in bowls, jars, all over the whole house. They are so calming to hold in the hand.
Just think. Nobody has ever noticed them to even pick them up. Forever. Now they are yours.

It is indeed very calming.

I also have some polished stones sitting on my desk. I believe that stones can have healing properties for some people. I don't know where I came across this, but I found a "Worry Stone" once. This is it. It appears to be Onyx to me. And it has a thumb depression in the middle where it can be held just so. The Worry Stone might still be a thing. It is a clever idea. I imagine that if I had an easy way to create the thumb depression part that I might fashion some quantities of these and give them away to folks.
