Hi. First time on the forum. Been rock collecting for a couple of years. Just started tumbling. So far not very well. Lol. Having no luck getting that beautiful shine others get. I'm tumbling a variety of stone and sized. They are so smooth!! But no shine. I've just put them in for a third week of polishing. Making sure there isn't one speck of any old grit in the tumbler. It was about 2/3 full of rocks but I took a few out for this round hoping that might help. I'm out of guesses.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I'll second the questions lordsorril posed...along with asking what kind of tumbler you're using? People are really willing to help with these kind of issues, but really need to know some specifics in order to help diagnose. (Not me...I too am a beginner...but SO many people are willing to help ).

Welcome from the Desert Southwest! I know what you mean about the shine on rocks. Some rocks just don't want to shine, while the harder stones can take a great shine. It sounds like you have solid principals!
One thing that I try to do is polish like-hardness stones together in one batch. Different hardness often requires completely different technique. So separate those out.
Research the types of rocks that you have and determine the hardness of each if you can. Or try your best by looking and evaluating them yourself. Then only run the group of similar hardness rocks together. No matter their type. They should all finish up about the same.
