HI! In the rocks that NMrocks sent me, one little rock stood out. Not because it was especially pretty, it's really not very pretty at all. But because it reminded me of something. It is almost perfectly round, except for a dimple in the top and a little bulge on one side. I'm thinking, it looks like the dimple may be where a stem had been on a seed pod of some kind, bur whats the bulge? I was out in the yard today and picked up an old acorn that also looked surprisingly similar. What do you think? The stem The "buldge" Pretty cool, huh? They even have the same texture and color, one is light and one is heavy. cookie

You could always stick it in some dirt and water it.... if it sprouts, you will know when the little Petrified Leaves pop out of the ground ! <G>

Maybe you can get a petrified squirrel to live in your petrified oak tree?? Joe hmmmmm there is a rock squirrel, but it doesn't live in trees. It lives on the ground, BUT there is "Rocky the Flying Squirrel" somewhere ..... No I guess that wouldn't work, because then you would have to find a petrified moose too !!!!!! ;D donna

Whoah, where the mind goes! I can just imagine Rocky, the Flying Squirrel eating the petrified acorn, taking a dump somewhere in the air, the petrified acorn faaaaaaaling to the ground, bapping Bullwinkle knocking the Electricals loose making him mind dead, hitting the ground, imbedding itself deep in Antidiluvian refuge, sprouting stone cotyl and growing a petrified tree, to later pass on and be found by rock nuts. That is really how petrified forests are created. Not the illusion they were old dead trees that magically turned into stone by the mystical petrosky process of mineral exchange of organic tissue. Or it might be a musket ball. Did you try to scratch the "acorn"? Maybe it is a preIncan musket ball.

Doc could be right it may be a musket ball, the dimple might be from where the excess lead was removed. I think they made musket balls out of stone too, not sure tho... Marian

It Does look allot lik the Moqui balls, Susun. Or it could be a musket ball. It is very heavy for it's size, suggesting lead of Hematite. Probably not an acorn, tho. Either way, it's still very cool cookie
