Hi! I'm a new kid on the block and I'm looking to learn as much as I can about Imperial Jade. I'm associated with a large Imperial Jade mine recently discovered in Brazil but know nothing about it and want to learn fast. I would like to learn: 1 - How to make perfectly round rocks out of jade? - Is there a machine that does it? - I'm talking about sizes from 3/8" (for jewelry) to about 4" 2 - For regular small rocks, how long it usually takes to tumble a rock of imperial jade ? I take the time to introduce my new website to you all. It is at www.jadefrombrazil.com. I would appreciate your visit and your personal comments about it, directly to me. Thanks,

Flippin heckers this is one for the experts. As far as I know Jade is fairly soft at 5-7. I have spent a lot of time in Hong Kong and they carve all sorts of stuff out of it over there - boats and stuff.

I have never worked with imperial jade, nor have I ever made spheres, but yes, there is equipment that does this, called sphere-makers or sphere-making machines. They come in various sizes, some have two heads, some have three heads etc. The small machines will make spheres from about 1/4" to 1" in diameter, but you can get bigger machines that will make whopping big spheres too. Google them up or look at some lapidary dealers for more info.
The time needed to tumble jade would really depend on how perfect you wanted the stones and whether you are using a vibrating tumbler (fast) or a rotary tumbler (slow). Would take at least a month in rotary, could take two if you want them perfect. I don't know how long a vibe would take...7-14 days maybe? I'm guessing that you are doing them commercially, and maybe commercial operators have a way to make things go faster?
Haven't checked out your website yet, so can't comment. Welcome.

I'm no expert but I am currently running a batch right now. So far it's taken about 2 months to get to polish stage. I use a rotary tumbler. With a vibe it would probably go faster. Good luck with your endeavor and welcome to the board!

Hello jadegeek, I am new to tumbling, so, I can not help you much with that specific information. I can tell you that I have cut a lot of Jade (cabochons) over the years and I have found that Rapid Polish #61 works about the best as far as polishes go! It is designed for those stones that like to undercut or "orangepeel" during the pre-polish and polish stage. During the polishing stage, use light pressure and try not to let any heat build up ... or you'll definitely get some of the orangepeel effect. As with any stones ... there are good and there are not so good (there is no such thing as a bad stone - by the way ). You will build your knowledge on the stone, when you start to work with it and find all of the little differences about it. You have a very enjoyable journey ahead of you .. set your sails and don't look back! There are some very nice sphere making machine out there, good luck with your search. Welcome to the board, John

Hello everybody, First of all I would like to thank greatly to the answers written thus far. I'm really new to the business and not only humble enough to recognize it, but very much interested in learning it fast. And how better to do it but do it from the best ? I would also like to say to krazydiamond and deepsouth, that their skepticism is natural and understood. But I would like to point a couple of things. 1 - Momentum Picks, LLC is a legally registered business in the state of Florida, one of the thoughest states in the union regarding bootlegers. 2 - If you know anybody living (maybe the City Police) in the city of Pompano Beach - Fl (cep 33060), all you have to do is request that they check the address and the legality of the business. 3 - Exactly to prevent such misunderstandings is that I decided to sell only from within the US, unless the client wants such amount that would fill a container, which even in this case, the sale is done by someone located within the US and liable to the laws of the US. Someone that you can sue, if necessary. The location within the US also is to make it easier for larger buyers not to have to hassle with all the importing complications, such as letters of credit, documentations, duties, etc... 4 - Regarding the discovery of this mine, it is true that Brazil has never been a supplier of Jade to the international market, however, Jade is very well known in Brazil, and simply the international comercialization of it has never been done in a professional way. In fact, if you visit the page www.jadefrombrazil.com/legend.htm you'll find that the indians have carved jade in Brazil since immemorial times. Ah there is archeological proof of it. 5 - Regarding the FREE OFFER, what is 1/2 a pound of jade for someone who has a mountain of it? It was the way I found to provoque exactly this kind of discussion and it is also the easiest way there is to find new customers. By the way, the response has been so great that I already changed the offer to 1/4 pound, which I don't know for how long I'll maintain. So, if you want to check it out for free, you better do it quick. If after all that you still don't believe, give me a call personally and I'll try to convince you over the phone. You can call me anytime, day or night. My name is Getulio Bastos and my home phone number - in Pompano Beach - Florida - is 954-784-4250 Trust me, you'll see and hear a lot about jadefrombrazil.com in the future to come.

Hi Jade. Well, you now have 4 hyperlinks on my board Jadegeek, how about linking to www.rocktumblinghobby.com to support my rock tumbling cause. What do you know about SEO Jade? Have you any experience of Google ranking? Andy.

Andy, Visit www.jadefrombrazil.com/trade.htm and tell me if you like as it is or prefer something different. I'll be glad to use a logo if you have one. Regarding SEO, I know a little but not enough to be effective. I also know that it is the most economical form of advertising on the Internet and the one that produces the best results. I know some people that do a good work, at a reasonable cost. If you require I can send you some links that'll help you on that.

Hi Getulio, I have a question about your FREE OFFER. In the post above you made this statement ...
But on your website it says ...
Could you please let me know which it is? I might be interested in it, if anything, just to say I have some. *smile* [glow=red,2,300]Cher[/glow]

Hi Rosebud,
If you read the rest of the paragraph you'd have seen that I wrote:
By the way, the response has been so great that I already changed the offer to 1/4 pound, which I don't know for how long I'll maintain. So, if you want to check it out for free, you better do it quick.
Meaning, that anybody who asked for the Free Sample from today on, would get only 1/4 pound. And you're the first one on this new list.

I was given an 1"X6"sq piece of royal jade. I have several slabs of varigated, an huge chunk of yellow, and chunks of translucent. I have never done jade, I found the market saturated in southwest Floriduh. My wife and I were three booths from a jade carver who was a genius with it. His bands lined with gold were amazing. He however, couldn't give it away and he went elsewhere. I do love the feel of the 1" slab. Jade feels like dumerite to the touch. I wish you all the best. Keep plugging away. Lapidary Journal Archives has a tutorial on making a sphere machine. It really isn't that difficult. You can mold the cups from uncured rubber, and a dremel tool can be the tool bit. Good luck.
