Thanks Tela! You do know it's not until the 11th, right?

Thanks Tela! You do know it's not until the 11th, right? I'm getting it first. LOL!
I had a death in the family and my days are getting mixed up.
The sentiment still applies. I'm just early.

Sorry to hear about the family sorrow... For what it's worth...I'm usually a day or two late remembering things...so I just tell people I'm 364 days early for next year!

DH and I forget our anniversary every flippin' year. We missed the big 2-0 last year. It made me sad. We've actually been together about 30, but something about 20 years is a big deal. Guess, we'll have to make an effort to remember our 25th.

rockjunquie Tela yesterday was the 246th birthday of the USMC so you're just fine. Still hard to come to terms with the fact that I was a Marine on camp pendleton for the Bicentennial celebration. So long ago but it doesn't seem like it.

My brother took my great nephew to see the parade at the beachfront. Should be fun. DH is sick, so I didn't want to go.
Dad, son, grandson, brother, brother in law, cousins, Uncle and husbands all served.
I have a special place in my heart for Veterans. I know some didn't serve by choice, but that doesn't negate their sacrifices.

My brother in law just missed it this year. He was always involved with the celebrations and parade. He was a double dipper. Retired Navy (Vietnam river boats) and Coast Guard reserves.

Tela, I was in the Navy stationed in and around Saigon working for a group that was putting radar stations up along the coastline. After I'd been "in country" for six months we had a weapons refresher course where we fired all types of firearms. After I shot the 50 caliber machine gun with tripod, the instructor asked me "Where did you learn to shoot like that? We could use you in the delta on a PBR" - (River patrol boat). I had just taken out the bulls eye of the target. Told him that my father was retired US Army Infantry major and that he had brought us up hunting and fishing. Also told him that I already had a day job.

It was some nasty business.

I did well with the M-16A1, and the drill instructors were amused at my poor performance when we got to fire 3 shots with the 1911. Got to fire a M60 on a ring mount in truck school, budget considerations post Vietnam really didn't allow for much training beyond basic rifle qualification though. Still not a great fan of the "Mattel rifle".

As a veteran. This is turning into one of my favorite holidays. 3 free meals one of them being a voucher, otherwise I would be in a food coma. 15% off groceries, which I did not know until I checked out.
