Hello!
I’m quite new to tumbling and I had my own share of experiences already! Luckily nothing really serious happened because I’ve kept a very close eye on my new tumbler! I just got the problems at the right time!
I bought the Lorton tumbler Model 33B which includes (2) 3pounds barrels. I was very anxious to start tumbling, so I just quickly browsed my tumbler’s manual/booklet. Being this my first encounter with the tumbler kind, I had no idea on how to place those barrels. The manual/booklet included with the tumbler is of general advice. On page 7 (if you have the booklet “580-34 Professional Gemstone Tumbling by Lortone) They only show how to place one barrel in the tumbler (one barrel model tumbler). In my rush I did not study the photographs of all of the Lortone tumblers shown in the inside of the front cover of the booklet. So I just started tumbling!!!
So what happened??? ?
Well I sat to look at the tumbler go up & down while enjoying the melodic sounds of the rocks rocking! What else to do, right! Anyway after a while the rhythm of the sound changed to a squeak... I examined the tumbler very close and finally realized that the barrels were on the wrong side because the bottom of the left barrel was being slowly carved by the ”offset Nylon Washer” of the tumbler! (Note: Model 33B does not have the barrel guide that is described in page 7)
I got it in time! The barrel only got lined by the washer and the story had a happy end. I’m really glad (and lucky) that I was just there when it happened and not somewhere else.
Just imagine...
I wrote this because I think my experience could save someone else from doing the same and having another type of ending.
Now...Do I Get a RED STAR for this one;D Ha-ha-ha!!!

Here are the pictures of the ”offset Nylon Washers" so you know what they are:
This is the one on the left side of the tumbler.
The one on the right side.
P.S.1 On a 3 barrel tumbler the two tops of the barrels face the sides of the tumbler, and the one in the middle go in either position. (I saw the picture):-)
P.S.2 ***Remember to oil your new tumble before using it***
I certainly did that one right! (Because it was sounding like hell!) :-)
P.S.3 In here I’m talking about Lortone tumblers. Please check your manual for others tumblers.
P.S.4 Remember... I’m new to tumbling.... I could be wrong...
