I recently acquired these three Chicken Track Picture Rock slabs from a dealer. It had been a very long time since I had seen any of this grade of this material for sale. They were a little on the pricey side but were just too darn enchanting to pass up.

I agree. Rarely see them this quality. Lucky find.
I have about a 6” square slab. Doesn’t show any sign of character, unless you just want the tracks on top.

My only question is how in the world could you cut it up ? Beautiful stuff.
So the obvious question - is why is it called 'Chicken Tracks", all I see is mountain ranges.
Curious.....

For inquiring minds, here you go:
"Chicken Track Picture Jasper is essentially petrified mud, found in Oregon near the Nevada border. It is from a dry lake bed giving the rough rock the appearance of chicken tracks on the outside of the stone. It is known for its distinct desert and mountain scenes, with scenic blue sky and brown mountains."
The "chicken track" reference, comes from a top down view, not from the sliced slab view above. If all the slabs you got were from the same original piece, you may be able to squeeze them all together to view the top.
I suppose the name is slightly better than something like, "Jim and Joe's purdy sliced pet mud piece found behind the makeshift desert latrine Jasper", or something like that!

I got some large chunks of chicken tracks I’m the rough. I’ll post some pics of the top when I get a chance so people can see why they give it that name.

Here's a piece I started to face as a specimen, definitely not as nice as far as scenery, but a good indication of how it formed. It is not petrified mud. It is silicified ash that covered a dried, cracked lake bed and solidified as a negative cast of the cracks. The piece in the photos is upside down from how it's found.
