I'm going to be tumbling some softer type rocks (sodalite, parrot-wing, etc) soon and I'm wondering if I should maybe skip the coarse grit and start with the fine grit?...or should I maybe use coarse grit for a few days, then go to the fine grit for a few days? Anyone with any suggestions? I have a rotary tumbler.

Duke, I would go slow and check often. I have done softer stones and only the smaller ones go real fast. Take it slow, check, be diligent.

It might not hurt to start in 120/220. The small stones do move fast and I would pull them out if you see they are ahead of the others. Sodalite has given me fits, but I think I tried to grind too long in coarse and it just beat them up. Good luck!
