yeh, if it is really MOH 3 as the article suggests, it will be a disappointing tumble. might cab well, though.

I have moved this thread to the appropriate section. Thanks to members vouching for this person, i didn't delete it. Our little rock community is more than just a snatch and grab sales forum, so new members are encouraged to join us in our passion for all things lapidary before trying to hawk their wares. And when you do decide to try and sell your stuff, please use the right section of this forum. my two cents anyway.

After 10 years of valiant service, the bearings on my trim saw seem to be finally seizing. Having taken it all apart (again) and oiling what i could, it now makes a deafening racket when cutting. Everything else (the motor, etc.) seems to be fine. I looked up the Lortone website and it appears they have totally redesigned the 6" model and don't appear to offer replacement parts for anything!
Any advice out there on how to proceed? Anybody know a tame Lortone rep to talk to?
Thanks!

nice work, holes are difficult for me. I had a drill press set up but it was very time consuming and not very cost effective.

yes, we all occasionally draw blood in this hobby, but that does look nasty, johnnymac1969. I've been know to take some clear garbage bags and a sledge hammer out to a concrete pad to make big rocks smaller for tumbling. I wear glasses, so i don't always add extra safety glasses...not saying i am right.
One of the reasons i got a trim saw was to maximize good quality material instead of hammering it into dust and useless pieces. Having said that, you can only saw so much with a 6" trim saw, too.
good luck tumbling your tiger eye, Sage, and your Turitella, Johnnymac!

Although it's been one of the milder winters here in Central NY, it's still is cold and long. Luckily, the basement in this new house stays a bit warmer than the old place, so i can pretty much work stone year round now. The water in the Genie gets pretty cold, though. I've used warm water on occasion. Doesn't stay warm for long.
But i am itching to get out and start my garden this year! Yesterday it got up to 56 degrees F, such a tease as it is only 36 degrees F today. At least we are getting a little more daylight, day by day. So yes, my mood improves with more sunlight and warmer temps.

so, got the water delivery system working now, quite the learning curve for this machine. Any tips for using a flat lap? Kind of intimidating starting out.
