yes the quality was great. There was some soft brittle stuff but you just have to cull it out. There is still lots of good things there. It seems everyone picks in the same spot on the east side of road. Pick the west side downhill and probe around. Ray ps don't forget me with the GQ.

Rodney don't be afraid to go north onHwy 16 about 6 miles. Posted on September 8, 2010 by rayduplechain Well, I had a long holiday weekend with no plans until my sister was hospitalized in Austin. So I figured a visit to her could be turned into a rocktrip. After visiting her and seeing her health was improving I turned my attention to my mini roundup. I traveled to Llano to find some llanoite. We found a nice room and settled in Sat. night with anticipation of our upcoming adventure. Sunday morning we traveled north of town on Hwy.16 to the spot where an outcropping was at the roadside. I figured most of would have been picked over and I would have to settle on scraps. When we arrived we walked around surveyed the right(east) side and found large boulders, much to big for me to lift. No small pieces as I suspected. We went on the left(west) side of roadway and found pretty much the same except someone had dug up a real nice boulder that was probably a little too much to pick up. I hit it once with a hammer that I had , and it split in two. perfect for handling. Loaded it up in our truck and started probing around the ground with a small prybar I had and pieces of llanoite was popping up all over. With little effort we had about 400 lbs of llanoite. I was so happy! Here we was at 10:00am with hundreds of lbs. of llanoite. Ray

I was given a piece of Georgia queen jasper from a vendor at the Mobile Gem Show. It cabs great and I would like to have more. Does anyone know of a location where I might collect some?

Thanks for all the positive feed backs. Here is a few details that might help anyone wanting to try it. First I cut the groove on an already finished cab with an inland glass grinder. I ordered a 1mm groove bit from Sunshine glass. Adjusted height as needed. Then wrapped with 20mm round wire using this tutorial forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=wwp&action=print&thread=30091Hope this helps and I look forward to seeing your works. Ray

There is opal in La. but the mine has been shut down. Not much left out there, it is getting harder to come by.
