I am going to visit my son in Lake Elsinore, Ca. for labor day week. Any suggested rockhounding adventures? Fluorescents would be nice but open for anything. I do have access to a FWD vehicle. Ray

Has anyone here done any carving on fluorescent minerals? I would love to see pics of them. Ray

The idea is cool. What we did was allow each child (any age, some were 70) to pick out a pet rock. We had some businees size cards made with club info on it. Once the perfect rock was found, they would give it a name. Then we would write the name and identity on the card and stick it to the card with two/sided tape. They walked off happy holding it close to their chest smiling.

It doesn't matter what it is. The kids would love anything shiny. I need at least 10lbs. I would gladly swap some of my rough for some. I will give twice the weight about.

No larger than a small marble and nothing so tiny that the kids would not want. I will be gluing them to a business size card. I am trying to think of something to compare too small and all I can think of is carat size. I would say no smaller than 3 or 4 carats.

OK, I am at it again. Our club sets up info booths at Earth Day & Astronomy Day events and hand out little pet rock cards with the kids selecting a pet rock from a bowl to glue onto there cards. It has been a very fun and educational way to get the kids excited about rocks & gems. Here is what I need: I need some small tumbled stones to restock the bowl. Does anyone have any that I could purchase for this? Ray

Doughboy's prices have went up quite a bit lately. I do not buy from him anymore. His prices was once good untill he got some attention. Just my opinion.

The dial indicator is the greatest add-ons that you would ever use. The cuts are more precise and quicker. I just finished a piece of peridot cz that is perhaps the most accurate and best polish job that I have done.

Justin, I learned to facet at The Charlotte School of Lapidary Arts. I use different laps for whatever stone I am cutting. But you probably will do lots of quartz to start. So, use a 320 then 1200 then 3000 and polish with cerium oxide. A great prepolish lap is a nubond 1200. Just replace the 3000 with it and it will make polishing a breeze. Toad, it is pink indoors with flourescent light bulbs.

Ultra Tec. I think it is the best. You can't go wrong with the V2. Put a dial indicator on it, if it doesn't have one already. Ray

I am so jealous of all of you! Someday I would love to go and be with everyone. I can buy rocks anytime but to get to meet and hang out with everyone would be the best. All of you have fun and tell someone: I wonder what Rockincajun is doing. LOL. That way I will feel like I am part of the group.
