I could feel the thudding. But then I am also one of the 2 % that hears the "the hum". That is a weird sensation. I could feel and sort-of hear the thud. Feel more than hear. What is the 'hum'? The Hum is a phenomenon, or collection of phenomena, involving widespread reports of a persistent and invasive low-frequency humming, rumbling, or droning noise not audible to all people.- Wikipedia. I 1st experienced "the hum" in 2012, living outside Grants Pass, OR. There was a known gold mine nearby, and I had noticed recent activity there. One night laying in bed. I "heard" and felt a ultra-low frequency droning noise, that would cycle on and off. Kinda like a generator. To me, it was quite loud and I couldn't imagine a work site emitting that much noise @ night w/o neighbors raising holy hell. I asked a neighbor the following day if she could her it, as the sound had continued all night into the next day. "Hear what?" was the response I soon became accustomed to. A few months later, I moved about 50 miles to the east and in disbelief, "the hum" followed me. 4 years @ that location and continuous hum the whole time. I should mention that when environmental noises are low, that's when the hum is loudest, while noisy times it is less noticeable. Last July, I moved south, to Yreka, CA. My past 2 camps were kinda remote (quiet, except for hum)), but my latest digs have an Interstate close by and of all things, a wood pulp processing plant, so there are more noises about. Trouble now is the pulp plant makes a noise similar to the hum, so either way I'm constantly bombarded w/ these low vibrations. My last Dr. suggested it could be in my head, nutcase that I am can't rule out that possibility. Getting a physical today w/ new DR., so will ask again.

If I were headed that direction I would pick it up but too far to drive for one piece of equipment. Tony Also have a 18" flat lap, and a Covington Arbor w/ 8" Sic grinding wheels & splash pans, all freshly painted green hammertone- no photos yet, but soon.

I'm curious as to how many holes you are getting from your drill bits. I haven't tried drilling glass- yet. If asked and answered already, my apologies.

I picked this up @ an estate sale recently, and had plans to refurbish it and resell. An unexpected opportunity to spend time w/ my Grandchildren finds me downsizing once again. Here's what I know about it: It needs a new acrylic hood. Needs on/off switch replaced (I have one that I will include.) Motor runs, sounds good. I have not operated the power feed due to the switch issue. I also know it's not something I want to ship, though if you made freight arrangements, I would put it on a pallet and have easy truck access where I'm at. Here it is, for better or worse, $250 or best offer. Comes w/ 3 blades, none are new- old Congos. P.M. me if interested.

Whenever I receive outstanding customer service, I like to share that info with others. Today, after trips to the hardware, tractor supply, and a machine shop, and calls to several lapidary supply vendors, I called Covington Engineering, as it was one of their products I needed parts for. I have a Covington 8"x3" Expanding Drum that has no arbor bushings or flanges. The arbor I plan to mount it to is an odd bugger, homemade, 3/4" steel turned down to 0.54. It's too big for 1/2" arbor hole and this is a problem. So Brian @ Covington came up w/ this solution- He would take 2" flanges w/ a 1/2" hole, and drill them as close to 0.55/0.56 as he could get them. Best part? No charge for the drilling service. Please also note I have not ordered from them previously, so this Royal treatment is the most pleasant surprise.

My last dog Bear slept w/ me, I eventually had to build a stowable ramp for him to get in, hips just had no hop left. My present charge Ebo, only gets up there during fireworks, thunderstorms, or target practice by the neighbors. He prefers camping out in the nice weather. As long as it's not a breed that sheds alot, I don't mind 'em in the bed.

I love using my glass grinder for shaping! What Tela said and since the piece rests on a flat surface as you're shaping it, I find it quite relaxing and can really see the progress in real time, as opposed to "grind, look, repeat.

Here's my roll- Shape and low-dome both sides on flat lap 100 then 180 and then into the vibe starting @ 320, then 600, and then AO polish. Afterward, I sort- some to get drilled for jewelry, and the thinner ones I re-dop and then flat lap just the center of the pick on both sides w/ 180 mesh. Put another way. I flatten out the dome @ 180. One day I'll get some pics... The whole process produces the thinnest pick I can make, holdabilty is good due to flattening and rough up of center, the highly polished edges glide across my guitar strings and I enjoy the crisper tones. Drawbacks- still no flex, and even the Brazilian agates I make them from will break if dropped properly. Had a couple musician friends try them, feedback was they are more of a novelty than a practical tool. Who wants to keep spending $25-30. every time one drops?

The opening on my Minisonic MT-4 is 2 5/8" x 2 5/8", so it will accommodate your size range and capacity is about right too. I love mine! Very quiet, no moving parts, and dial-ability for more or less aggression. I picked mine up on Ebay used for about $100, bought a new 2nd hopper for $50.

Nice job! I know from experience that they're harder to get right than they look. How thick are they?

Ya know, I can haggle w/ the best of them, and often set my prices with wiggle room, just in case the buyer's likable.. But in my mind, "What's the least you'll take?" isn't an offer- it's an insult. I will in the future add " no lowballers" to my ad copy- Thanks vegasjames.

Over the last several years I've had the good fortune of running into "deals" on Lapidary equipment. I've purchased vintage arbors, saws, tumblers and such. Some I've put to good use, others I'll clean, repair, and often strip and repaint prior to reselling. I put ALOT of elbow grease into restoring these machines in the hopes they'll find a loving home and a new lapidary perhaps? I often put them up on Craigslist and ask reasonable prices and am in no hurry to make a quick sale. So when a guy calls and the 1st question outta his mouth is "What's the least you'll take for it?", my tendency has been to take umbrage and hang up the phone. I won't respond to emails or Texts from Craigslist folk. MY question to the forum is " Should my panties be getting twisted at this particular negotiating tactic? How would all Y'all respond? This should be fun!
