I've been looking at the Richardson's Ranch dry sander. It only takes a few minutes to do an egg. The disc are $1 each and the unit itself is $595. There's a few videos on Youtube. That is what the Geokid used.

I have had two vib laps, one a 16" and one a 27". They are slow and require more weight added to small pieces {about under a couple pounds}, but don't have to be babysat 100% of the time. I built a 20" rotary lap, it does have to me hand managed all the trime, but does a better job in way less time. I made several discs and run different SiC grits on each disc. It runs at 120 RPM which is as fast as I can run it without slinging the grit-water off. Photos please!

The Oligocene ended and Miocene began about 20 million years ago when a comet impacted Uzbekistan This is not recognized by geologists because it is not what they expect. It did not explode. instead of an asteroid, think water balloon, after all, comets are "dirty snowballs." As a water balloon, Instead of exploding, it shoved the ground toward the southeast, and Made metamorphic rocks and sprinkled it with it's dirt - uranium, gold, copper, etc.. Think Impact Funnels - Smothered Impacts. And even stranger stuff.
I think This Uranium possibly set the stage for apes to change into humans. All part of God's plan.

Tommy this needs it's own section. Hi Dave, faceting is a very specific niche topic and it did have it's own section here for a very long time and was not creating much activity. The most recent post in the category was a year old which is not good because inactivity breeds inactivity and is a negative for any forum. With faceting being a specialized form of flat lapping I decided to consolidate it into the flat lapping category and changed the title to include all - displays, faceting, cabochons. OK, I just had a hard time finding it.

An amazing fact about sand, it is mostly quartz crystals which are ElectretsWhen compressed they generate electricity, which makes a magnetic field and all kinds of strange things occur! Early explorers thought they were hearing spirits of the dead!

Trancas are thundereggs from Mexico. as they formed in calcite magma, unlike other t-eggs they opened at the very center, so don't have the middle ball core as normal.
