I have a BA textured 80 grit that cuts fast but leaves significant scratches. I have a very worn DP 80 grit that I use to tune the shape and remove scratches. The 220 hard wheel is useless. I bought a 140 grit soft wheel from HP and it is better. HP has wheels on sale so I bought a 60 grit soft wheel to try out. I think Paul and Russ Kanuith use the 60 grit. I haven't mounted it. I switched using a 280 soft from a shaping wheel to a sanding wheel and it has lasted a long time. yeah, i'm not too concerned about the scratches, the 1500 takes them out fast, ive been wanting to try the sintered but the 60 grit resin sounds interesting as well

Nice to see you Glenn. Did I read that right? You are going from 80 to 1500? yep, 80 grit hard to 1500 hard to the normal 280 rez bonded and so forth, though im going to try and eliminate the 280 if i can, might not be able to for agate but i havent tried before going to the 600

Boo, I know y'all haven't seen me around in years it seems like. Self employment running my own heavy euipment business startup and of course lapidary business kept me busy, now that its winter, as long as i can survive snowmagedden, ill get time to play with and cut all the rocks ive been finding! Thought id make a post as i had everyone in mind in the back of my head, but finally had a slightly down day! So since i'm self employed and value time since i never know what my schedule will be, ive always been dissatisfied with the time it took to make a flawless (void of scratches) cabs, especially with agate. So prior to my revolutionary finding and continuing, ive been using the premium resin wheels made by Baltic abrasives. other manufactures recently started making similar wheels but usually cost more. the premium resin wheels ive had on for years and ran through hundreds of cabs, still are almost like they are just broke in! the 280 soft wheel from DP always wore ot quick and transitioning to 220 to 280 was always time consuming, less time consuming with the premium wheels. However it still took too long for my taste. So this is where my experimentation came in and currently proven strategy that i wont ever change most likely for hard stuff. I took off the 220 hard wheel and started playing with other hard wheels. what i have found is that 1st grit kept at 80 (i may go to larger grit sizes for agate in future though) and the 2nd hard wheel is 1,500 grit. everything else thus far normal. Now, if i have a preform of agate, I can make a cab in about 10-15 min this encludes the time between each stage after stage 2 to dry it off ad sharpie any remaining scratches from the prior wheel that needs corrected before moving on (about 1 min per wheel). Since ive done thisa fw other local lapidary friends also replaced their 220 wheels. Ive made a few hundred cabs on the 1,500 electroplated wheel already and its still going strong which was surprising. im making another batch of cabs, im going to see if i can skip the 280 grit soft wheel altogether for hard materials, i can with soft material. If i can replace it, i'll probably add a 10k grit soft wheel at the end of the set instead of 3k for final.
you can see some of my cabs and other things in my lapidary fb group (link in signature). I'll probably have at least 100 cabs (mostly alaskan) to post soon.
facebook messenger is generally the easiest way to reach me these days.

Well, I don't often post rough but i thought id post this 19.2LB Alaskan Agate specimen up for grabs. Cut on 2 sides as shown. Has some UV charictaristics (white) under my high powered uv light. Finding them this size is rather rare. Thought id offer it as a specimen before i make it smaller Price includes medium flat rate box postage. $245 via paypal, venmo, or facebook via friends / gift methods $300 via merchant methods (covers taxes under new laws as postage price and PayPal tax is considered income) If your interested in other Alaskan specimens, ive got a bit for grabs. some geodes, thunder eggs, and other things. Most things are about $10/lb of Alaskan materials. Any funds / donations are applied towards getting a lapidary shop going that will be available to others. With luck a small temp building insulated by end of summer.

Well I don't have a problem with "no photos". In fact, there's so many, I got lost on making any comments about any of them in particular! LOL - You definitely were busy! Yeah, and eventually i'll start making some cabs out of my newer materials maybe lol. Least need to do some test cabs.

Nope. All I see is: so this Alaskan thunder egg took all of my 24 inch saw. Only access to the location is by helicopter. Big piece of Alaskan chrysanthemum stone i cut which someone chose to have an engraving made from BTW, chrysanthemum stone is like cristobalite spheres but made out of feldspar. Might need to clear your internet cache and or cookies, that's what happnes occasionally when things start getting weird on my end

Love that thunderegg is gorgeous! Good to see you on here, glennz01 . Yeah, ive got maybe 150 lbs of that type of material, largest single thunder egg i found in the area was about 3 ft across, granted it was just white core and brown outside so i left it, maybe some day ill go back but it sure cost a lot to go on that trip via helicopter!

Beautiful material, amazing thunderegg. You need to dome it and enter it in the cab contest! Maybe, ive got a lot of baby thunderegg material ive cut up, each thunderegg being 1/4 inch in matrix of others.

I have some large pieces that might fit in a flat rate box, some Namibian green flourite and some Challis flourite which has faded some, mostly purple but dont remember seeing much blue. The Namibian is $8 lb and the Challis is $3 lb. Let me know if any of these interest you. If they wont fit in a flat rate box but are under 50 lbs I can ship UPS flat rate. Tony Heres a few photos on top of a 55 gal drum I have others, these are just a couple I pulled out of the crate. Tony Thanks once my customer gets back from his job (airlines pilot) I'll have answers

A bit small for what my client is looking for Might be small for what they want, but can imagine the price for a blue of that quality in the thousands of dollars. Never seen blue that big! Can't say I'm aware of the price since I hardly buy rocks much, but my client is an airlines pilot so if he wants it, he can easilly get it so long as the price is fair. Downside to him being an pilot is it takes a while for a reply when he is out for a week at a time or so.

All I have is green stuff. If it's large send a pic and I can show my the person asking me, and what you'd like, if it speaks to them just like the sodalight then they will take it, but may like more. Note they are dealing with a passing in the family so they are in and out of state so I may nor have an answer right away, but I'll keep you and anyone else that has some up to date
