I have definitely heard of people cutting with RV antifreeze but I think the big question is what size saw. I believe anything over 10" needs oil. There's been discussion here recently about adding heaters to the slab saw to keep the oil "thinner". Will be on a 14 inch but I cut for efficiency not best blade wear nessesary. I used to cut with just water on a 16 with no blade wear difference time saved cleaning probably makes up for the slight extra loss if it doesn't rust. should note the mineral throws tones of stew in the garauge or shed so I'd rather it be water based as well

So with moving and all I've been looking at other methods for fluids so I can cut when it's 20 below. Mineral oil can but gets thick.
I was wondering if anyone used rv antifreze. (Would be year round). Drinkable material and not supposed to rust even though water based.
Anyone try this yet?

The cabochon contest voting period is now open. Poll will close automatically at 12:01 am 5/03/2020. At the conclusion of the voting period all of the contest entry posts and responses will be visible again in this thread. Please place your vote for the cabochon that best meets the criteria of the theme as follows: Theme is: Bright colored cabs, or a mix bright and very dark cabs that pop See below for the complete set of rules. Admin note added 4/13/2020: Starting on May 1st we are going to streamline the cabochon challenge with a fresh new look and work hard to fully contain each contest within the contest month. To accomplish this fresh new start, the April contest will be closing at 11:59 PM APRIL 25th and the voting period will run from April 26th to May 2nd. The next contest will start promptly on May 1st.[/font][/b]
All hand made cabbing techniques may be used. Cabs entered must be hand shaped (can be finished in a tumbler but please note if so) and be completed by the last minute of the month in your timezone. They can be started before the month but only finished during the month. You must have 1 photo of ether a preform or slab of the rock. You can enter 1 cab with a up to 3 individual finished piece (not combined) photos of the cab, 2 extra photos will allocated for stones that have color play due to light or fluorescence or equivalent special characteristics (not polish). 1 of the 3 normal photos will be used for voting and if your stone has special characteristics 1 photo from that as well. Please note which photo you would like to use for voting. Voting is a fun way to see what cab folks like the most. Before voting you can change your photos or improve your cab (rework spots especially if you are asking for advice) and place new photos in your original post replacing old photos by the deadline. Please tell an approximation measurement of the length / width of the cab. Finished jewelry cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified by the theme). It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the cab without a jump ring, as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.) All entries submitted to this contest must be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). Any duplicates will not be included in the voting list. Feel free to share with us the story behind your workings or material. Also, don't forget to include the name of the material. If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first. If there are any questions feel free to ask. Beginners to old timers are welcome. If you would like feedback (constructive criticism) ask for folks to pm you if they wish to offer tips. If you are new and think your cab isn't too good but its the best you can do post it anyway, getting feedback is how i got to where i am now! Winner prize postponed.

Thanks, my engravings have been fairly popular, especially engraving actual pet paw peints in agate or wood.

Since its just us and I'm not too particular on themes want to come up with something or the both of us? I generally like a challenge but sometimes the first thing that pops to my head is what I choose lol I will be more than happy to choose and the 1st thing that came to my mind was a doublet ? I have never done one, so thought it might be a good challenge I haven't made one ether but seems simple enough.

I will check my 24 and see what the blade arbor is running at tomorrow, it's dark and scary out there right now!! The only time it quit cutting was when I let the blade get dull. lol dark and scary lmao thats funny old man i think my saw was made by bigfoot lol. mine is currently 12 inch and 1 inch for blade motor, largest used to have a 2.5 on the motor but swapped it to the feed wheel. doesn't seem to bind but still seems slow. so feed is 2 to 2.5 in

well, saw cuts but oddly enough the blade binds when the rpm is in the optimal range for speed. i put the 12 inch on again, put a flightly larger pully on the feed. still super slow though but least i can cut. just have to figure how to speed up the rpm without binding.
Current blade rpm is about 420 r less

I would report her. Considering the USPS will lose almost $8 BILLION this year, they're obviously paying their employees too much.
MsAli - report that carrier, too. They could do some serious damage to a car doing that. yeah i did that, basically said i would never use that post office again as long as that postmaster is here. especially with the nasty attitude. Luckily Alaska Airlines has much better service and when the bags get stuck on the next plain because the plain is very overweight, they hire a company to deliver them to my door over an hour drive!! Probably along with many others, but both my bags weighed exactly 50 lbs.... and i bet noone here can guess why lol! Also tsa doesn't care if you carry on a huge rock or small rocks now. i read before smaller then hand sizes are allowed so i carried all my small stuff... would have carried my 26 lb rock instead had i known!
