Surface is smooth and glassy, the edges seem translucent, and it doesn't scratch noticeably with a nail ...

That's a serious lunker.
Is there any way to slab something that big?

Cool specimen. The wavy edge would be gorgeous polished. It's nice looking rough. Polished I bet it would really light up.

Some kind of conglomerate jasper? All very nice acquisitions. The smoky quartz is fantastic, haven't seen garnet on quartz before.

Thanks all. I still don't have access to a saw but may know a member here who'd cut them for me in trade --- I actually sent her one of the bluish ones with some (hopefully) agate nodules. If I do get some split I'll post pics.

hey, you remembered my turtle hey, you remembered my turtle, gingerkid. Cool. I love that thing.
Thanks for the link gingerkid, that's a cool one for sure bhiatt. The surface on mine is very rough and muddy by comparison. I love how smooth and polished yours looks.

Wow gingerkid that is gorgeous. Hard to imagine a prettier natural specimen. It's like a bouquet of perfect roses that will never fade
Oh, and I don't know enough about obsidian to classify it I just love the color and transparency. I can only imagine how precious it must have been to the person who discovered and crafted it.

I've been watching yard sales and the local Buy Sell Trade listings; something perfect will show up sooner or later.
I found an excellent top at a local metal scrapyard but haven't found a way to transport it home, it's a circular walkway made of expanded metal that came off a small oilfield tank. It's probably around 40 square feet of area and I'd just have to rig legs out of cinder blocks or something. Hopefully I can find a couple of helpers and a flatbed trailer before he decides to sell it for scrap ...

In addition to "normal" teepee agates I find a lot of blue nodules and nodules of conglomerate surrounding what appears to be a solid mass of jasper. Unlike the teepee agate nodules which are broken as often as not, these other 2 types seem to stay intact. I'm hesitant to just lay into them with a hammer; has anyone seen this stuff cut or know what it is?

FINALLY filled in the triangle between my front walks. Looks like a 2 day job and it took me a month
Anyway ...
This might pile up deeper but the bottom layer is down at least.
I'm still confounded in my search for tables. Have been looking at expanded metal and industrial plastic tabletops but everything is pricy. Running out of places to stack all the small stuff and it's put me at a bit of a standstill.

But it resembles a turtle shell. Septarian?

Congratulations. Obvious banding and nice colors, maybe even a geode center?

Have you tried testing hardness by scratching with an iron nail?
The shape, location and outer jasper-y appearance (2nd pic) make me think agate. May require a tumble / cut to know for sure. It does look like it's got several fractures so hopefully it will stay intact for you.
Fair warning I'm a noob just taking a guess.

Cool. I really like the mottled gray and brown point on the far right / center. Is that an axe in the bottom right corner?
And that 3rd one the orange flint is gorgeous. Is that a small geode cavity on the tip end?
You can really tell their source material was limited. Thanks for sharing.
