I lost my Dad to a heart attack at the beginning of my senior year of High School. I lost my Mom to dementia and Alzheimer's three years ago on the fourth of July.
It's a lot harder losing a parent a piece at a time.
James, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are few words that can be said to help comfort those hurting from such a loss. Know that you are in our hearts, our thoughts and must assuredly in our prayers. 2X Geezer

I will definitely have to check into that. I've know about Arizona having a lot of fossilized wood but didn't even think of any in Southern Nevada. I have been hiking and running around in the deserts out here since '81 but I've never came across any (could just not have been in the right areas). Thanks for the tip Or, more likely, that wasn't your focus.... It's called observational bias. Now that you start looking for it, it will take a while to find the first one. Once you see it, the next and more come easy. That is called finding your "search image".... Lol Sorry about the fancy terms. They is real though. Now go find the pet wood! Ha! It's like hunting for morel mushrooms- first one is hard, the rest are easy!

Don, you ol' sure shot! You sniped me good on that drill right there haha! I was the only bidder the whole time and even watched it until the last 1.5min.. Went to take a dump.. Came back and wasnt the winning bidder! HA! I was pissed but now i know who the sniper was im honored. Thought you might get a laugh out of that. Also, truly sorry to hear the news. Your generation is tough as nails so im sure you'll give that cancer hell. Just wanted to chime in and send my best wishes. LOL. My snipe bid went in with 5 seconds to spare. Guess I'm gonna have to give you younguns sniping lessons. Let's take 'em on an ol, fashioned snipe hunt!

No sea burial for me. Got my hunk of ground on the side of a hill, well above sea level. If I outlast my dog Jake, His ashes will be in the box with me, along with my favorite Fairburn agate. This one? uh... where is that hill again? Maybe you need to carve "found by", then your initials in the back of that agate. A thousand years from now some Zahi Hawass wannabe will be claiming it as part of his "discovery". Hang in there and give it Hell. You may not "win", but your enemy will know its been in one helluva fight! Geezer

When in the hospital- LISTEN TO THE DOCTOR!
when you are home- LISTEN TO THE WIFE!
take it easy, keep us up to date, and heal up quick!

Greetings all!
Made a trip last Saturday to a rock shop that looks like it fell out of a black hole from 1970. I've been buying stuff here for the past year, and getting a lot of good stuff! He has a bunch of plastic 55-gallon barrels outside his shop with larger pieces of rough for sale. Found a lot of gold sheen and rainbow in a couple of the barrels. One barrel was filled with mahogany, and I needed to pick up a piece for a friend for knapping. While checking the mahogany out, I saw areas of what looked like a red sheen. I'm not familiar with mahogany having this, and was wondering if this is uncommon.
Any ideas?
