my supply was in 5 gallon pails. when I sent some to james my intention was to send him 10 lbs to try. but the day I told him I would send it out I got called in early and didn't make it to the post office. while at work someone stabbed a bag. I literally ran up and shoveled up 100 or so pounds as the guy was coming up the isleway with the sweeper. long story short. I ghetto packaged 2 hefty garbage bags in a lfrb (the strechy force flex kind) and dumped 1 pail in. the bags kept it from going all the way into the corners but it was still pretty full. weighed in at just under 50 lbs at the post office. it must be less dense because of the bigger chunks but in my non expert opinion I do not believe a 50 lbs bag will fit without some serious packing it in. however if a larger lawn and leaf bag were used which allowed it to go all the way into the corners 50 lbs would easily fit in a lfrb. My point exactly , I think someone would have to dump the paper bags and repack in plastic bags .

Could a 50 pound bag with the paper bag fit in a lfrb ? Got 50 of 80 grit from Kingsley that barely fit with just a poly bag . That is a question wigglin. It may have to be pounded into shape before it goes in a LFRB. Same deal w/50 pounds from Kingsley. The box the Kingsley came in was quite bulged out when it arrived , not sure if another pound would have fit in there . I might be interested depending on all the $ details .

I just called to get a freight quote to an Atlanta freight dock to see what Lampus shipping rates are. And confirmed, the 3000 pounds in 50 pound bags costs the same as a 3000 pound super sack. The bags are sewn sealed kraft paper with poly liner. Could a 50 pound bag with the paper bag fit in a lfrb ? Got 50 of 80 grit from Kingsley that barely fit with just a poly bag .

A cubic yard of wet concrete is something like 4400 pounds . Yep close to that. I poured thousands of yards of mud in my life and that's heavy stuff. COuple tons per yeard for sure. No voids wither like gravel. Gravel weighs 2500-3000 pounds. Be nice to have a close approx. for weight. Have rocks in my collection, not yard rocks, that weigh a couple hundred pounds. But I have a forklift and that helps. Just cant get it in the house. hehehe Wish we had something to see the scale. I always thught about a set of gin poles to raise something like that and drop it into the truck or trailer. MAybe some type of mechanics lift mounted on a pintle like diesel mechanic have. jamesp Jim would have a good idea or 3.
Ditto the having poured thousands of concrete , worked in concrete for almost 20 years . Could explain why the body is older than it should be .

Win What are the rough dimensions for calculating it's weight? Someone here can probably give you ideas of how to do something about getting it home. How close can you get a trailer or truck? . Fun and pretty yard rock for sure. Bet lots of folks have seen that beauty. A cubic yard of wet concrete is something like 4400 pounds .

I would be doin some head scratching trying to figure out how to get that one home . We did, I think we went back a few times. It's been a few years, a few flash floods, maybe it moved closer to the area we park! Big chunk of conglomerate in one of the local gravel pits that I have thought about hauling home . I could get the loader operator to load it , but then what . Thinking close to a ton . Our stuff is ugly dark brown anyway .

Most likely there would be liability issues to tend to . Small scale start up would be would be the way to go . We don't have the real high falls around this area . Northern Mn has a couple pretty tall ones though . So how many tons of rock did ya haul home ? Wasn't even 400 pounds but the chunk of massive crystals weighed a couple hundred pounds and collected a lot on the last 50 miles. Not lap stuf but more yard rocks, hehehe Also brought home memories. Like that part. Don't have to load them in 3 trucks to more those. grin Memories are what it is all about . Its not what ya get , its what ya get out of it .

Sure would be a lot of things to consider doing something like this . Will have to do some checking . Prolly have to jump thru a million hoops up there. Life gets more of a hassle and more complicated the more government we have and their self made laws we have to pay for and to endure. Too bad life wasn't more simple. groan... grin Pretty day in the mountains.. Wish you were here would give you the grand tour. Maybe look at my waterfalls. Seen one Saturday on the way to a rockshow in Durango to hook up with Zarguy, that was a few hundred feet tall and dropped in a major chasm. Wasn't as uniwue as yours.

Cliff , maybe try 1-800-wigglinrocks . A few years back I was considering getting a little tour thing going but too many other thing got in the way . Should give it some thought now . Might be a good deal . Be a welcome change in jobs. Be fun to lead a rock tour through the tailings and gravels there. Maybe just a nature tour. Fishing for snakeheads. hehehe

Some friends of ours were up visiting the past week so we took them up to Lake Superior for the day yesterday . Same beech and rocks as my last thread so I didn't take the camera out . On the way home we decided to show them a waterfall we went to a few times in the past . Just a small on but lots of water . Wren Falls is the name of it , only about 10 feet wide and drops about the same . Anyway , thought I would share a couple pics . We didn't crawl down the almost vertical 50 feet for a close up this time , From downstream a bit , And looking downstream farther , we didn't venture farther this time around but it is really cool scenery downstream , Now offering guided tours , just kidding but we have been to a bunch of waterfalls . Thanks for looking Where do I sign up for your guided tour? Pretty place in the world. Lucky to be there....as Capn Bob says..in the summer. hehehe Cliff , maybe try 1-800-wigglinrocks . A few years back I was considering getting a little tour thing going but too many other thing got in the way . Should give it some thought now .

Man that looks sooo refreshing! Only 110 here today (118 two days ago), but the monsoon moisture is flowing into the state. They say it's a dry heat out here but no.. not today I think I would melt in your temps . Talking with a couple guys at the falls , they say they jump off the high rocks . Said the pool is 32 feet deep below the falls .

There are are so many great falls in the U.P. My favorite is Canyon Falls between Marquette and Houghton, but I haven't seen them all yet. Thanks for the pictures, that's one I haven't seen. We have the book "guide to 199 Michigan Waterfalls" which has been a great resource . Only been to a little over 100 named falls in the UP , got a ways to go . This one is in Wisconsin a little over a hundred miles from home .
