I run a dozen saws I’m only able to run seven at a time due to power limitations. And filtering is easy A cheap pillow case and a bucket It takes a week or so and the oil filters through like a coffee filter. And when it’s done you have a bag of dried sediment and a bucket of filtered oil. There’s about 80% recovery depending on how long you let it drip. With a dozen saws going I still buy 30 gallons a year. This year I’ve cut a few thousand slabs. And still have a five gallon pail of new oil and three pairs of filtered oil The best advice I have is don’t let the oil in the saws go to a pudding consistency, drain and filter often and it filters faster. Cost of pillow case 99 cents and I go through a dozen or so per year. One day I’ll think about a centrifuge but for now the pillow case works fine.

I have three saws that I use only water on now. They all were oil saws but have been cleaned up and I use them only with tap water They are drained and the blades are dried after each use. So far I have noticed the small highland park trim saw 6 in with a brand new mk 301 blade seems to chip out a bit more using water vs. oil but it is a new blade, still a bit agressive. I very much enjoy the water vs the oil in cleanup of stones and hands. The other highland park 10 inch trim saws are water only and these are attached to arbors, one a b 12 and the other I think a b50 or 52 I like the water on these as there are no contamination of oil on the far left wheels. All of the other saws are inexpensive mineral oil.i have learned the hard way using oil on crysacolla so having a dedicated saw for cutting those petulicar stones that oil can taint is critical. Maybe I'll try water and an additive in the old j3 for those bigger more sensitive rocks. I will say that twenty plus years as a tile and granite guy has taught me to always keep blades dry after use. Rust happens quickly.

This place is great I buy from him and not only are his prices exceptional but he is a wonderful family man and a fire fighter. I refer him to all the rock tumblers. He sells in all sorts of quantities and the more you buy the better the price.

I would pay up to a thousand in that condition. My best saws are 18 and 24 in frantom. Real workhorse.

Sphere products . Com has some cool jigs. And Richardson rock ranch may have some preform jigs. I make hundreds of spheres and you don't have to be absolutely perfect in your performs but the closer the better.

On my saws I clean every third or fourth oil change. By clean I mean. Empty and squeegee the bottom and white terry cloth everything. Pure clean oil over all moving parts. . It never hurts to check nuts an bolts and bearing rollers to insure alignment and carriage is functioning. Some times it's only a couple weeks between clean outs. Lots of slabs, and preforms to cut.

Just wanted to give an update on my Little Rock sale. I had a great day meeting local rock hounds and some people I haven't seen in a couple years. The day went by to quickly but there are still two days left for selling I still want to meet a few of you RTHers come by if you can. And thanks again to all the hounds.

Well I did two small batches in the uv 10 First we're kalama agates prepolished with 500 f n a 10 lb lortone barrel which I have done this way for years
These hard carnelian came out with the same shine on them as the Tripoli I use as a final polish The silver bond b works as a polish here Second I did a small batch of adventure and the same 500f in barrel for pre polish then to the uv 10 with silver bond b and they came out less polished than the Tripoli I usually use So I am going to experiment more with the silver bond b but it seems like the harder the mohs the better the polish

I thank you for the post. The fine people at the rice museum in Oregon are asking me to polish a slab and it is different hardness. I will try your methods. And also am going to try wet diamond polishing pads that I use for marble and granite outer top edging. I'll post the outcome. Again thank you for your input and pictures
