I just realized that I should enter the contest now that I am cabbing. I chose a piece of moss agate from my father's stash. DSC00717 by ngboettch, on Flickr DSC00722 by ngboettch, on Flickr DSC00729 by ngboettch, on Flickr Use this one... I hope I did okay. Getting a decent picture was probably harder than cabbing. Critiques are welcome.

I took a serious look at becoming a fishing guide when I retired from the Navy. Even though I would have enjoyed it when I looked at what it costs compared to the earnings I decided it was not a great idea. I did have a technical background which got me a good job. I recently got started in with rocks. I have probably gotten away with about 3k dollars in equipment, 18 in saw, 10 in saw, genie with saw, and 3 tumblers. Took a lot of time to find affordable stuff and had to do some work on all the used equipment. I also am not in a great area for finding decent material to work with, so it is either travel or buy. I like to find my own so it coincides with my desire to spend a week or so on the road every month. And I have not looked into wire wrapping or metal smithing yet. I can only set some standard sized cabochons if I want to make jewelry. And I did not have to sell a single pinball machine to get setup which is a win.

Thank you, will start working it again next time I am cabbing and work through the grits. Dome looked pretty good so this is probably left from the 220 wheel, The fact the cabs were either wet or looked like they were hazy through the beginning stages did a great job of hiding it from me.

Bunch of wonderful tumbles. I guess I need to figure in a bass fishing trip. (Rockhounding too).

The easiest way to get pictures from a camera to your computer without doing anything fancy is email.

It is amazing how desperate some people are for attention, isn't it?

That is a beautiful batch of tumbles. Since I managed to fill a bucket with nice material in a few hours up there (Buffalo Gap) I will take my brother in law up there sometime next year.

The preform for the snowflake obsidian was cut by my dad about 50 years ago. It was fun to have the connection when finishing it.

Nice group of cabs. Which machine are you using? Welcome to the wonderful world of cabbing..... or should I say welcome to the addiction? I am starting out with a modified Genie. Went to 2 wheels vice 3 to open it up a little. Got it cheap, had to replace some stuff, a couple of new wheels, and the extra spindles. I am liking it so far, but will do a bit more work before I start in on my better slabs.

Beautiful cabs! Love the Needles Blue. Get yourself a nice fat dowel and drill a hole in the middle so you can stick the nail in there and hold onto the dowel instead. Make the hole small enough so the nail sticks in there good. I was going to say the same thing....

I have never understood the reasoning... It is easier to swap working or school hours than to swap the clocks and makes more sense. But when confronted with a bureaucracy...

Interesting rock... I would probably call it a jasper.
