Hello! I am currently new to the forum even though I have been lurking without membership for a year or two… A few months ago I got my hands on an old Diamond Pacific genie, so old it has the spelling “genii” on the base. It is a motor connected to the base, with 2 wheels on the left and an odd looking wooden component on the right with a polishing head. I recently just dropped a bunch of money on new wheels and a few accessories, new shafts to fit 3 wheels on each side, a wheel wetter system, and a pan. To make it easy I was going to purchase 2 pans, right and left hood and brackets… I wouldn’t have minded spending a little bit of money, but I find 2 pans $40 each, each hood $85, and each bracket $80 totaling over $400 a little expensive for a hood system… So I am here to ask you guys for any suggestions on creating a hood system for my old genie! I truly appreciate it!

Check THIS out. The pans and hoods on this one were done with plastic sheets. That's probably what I would use if I didn't own a full sheet metal shop. If you go back to the main forum take a look down at the lapidary equipment board (the one this is posted in) At the bottom of that link is a diy projects link. If you click on that there's several projects that members here have built. There's one in there where someone used cut water jugs for the trays and hoods and it looks pretty darn good.

If you could post pics it would be helpful. Here's how... Follow the instructions exactly. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/page/using-cloudinaryIf your Genii can be configured into a Genie I could make up a dimensioned drawing of the trays and spray shields on mine. If you purchase the acrylic sheet and adhesive and already have a table saw with a blade that doesn't chip plastic and bar clamps for gluing them up, you will save money as long as you don't connect much cash value to the hours of labor to assemble them. If you have to buy the tools it's a big loss, but you have cool tools for future projects.
