Last Wednesday I got up real early to drive out as I had an appointment in the afternoon and it was going to be the only sunny day of the week... and I wanted some sunshine
Wanted to try a trail I got recommended by a fellow visitor of the "Ritterspiele" I attended a couple of weeks ago.
On the way there I noticed - for the first time this year - really dense fog clinging to the ground. Made for a really interesting contrast and... made me quite curious about how "picture worthy" this trip would be. Mind you... I'm walking around in river beds and / or valleys with mountains to each side. Sun is really low in autumn and if all you can see is a wall of fog floating over the ground... not much to photograph.
So when I came up to my first "scenic picture point" I was... surprised. I'd never expected to see THAT MUCH fog over lake Sylvenstein... and for it to be this cold.
So I took a few pictures, just for documentations sake and drove on towards a parking spot close to my destination.
Arriving at the parking spot I only noticed fog and cold.
I walked along the directions given to me, taking pictures occasionally... and did not find any Gumpen.
As it is nearby, I drove to one of my most favorite spots, accessible via the "Mautstraße von Wallgau nach Vorderriß".
Had a great time!

The trail I got recommended was "Cross the Geschiebesperre Isar, move along the way until you can make a left and upwards, follow this trail, make a left again and that should lead you to a nice spot with some Gumpen".
Gumpen are filled with water from a stream, a stream in mountains often has some litte waterfalls and well... stones. So of course I was interested to try this trail.

Freezing my fingers I simply took my chances with the photography, having no idea how anything might turn out under those conditions.
(Spoiler alert: I was mildly supersized and happy with the results.)

Knowing I was kinda limited on time I had to make a call it some point. It was a nice mountain trail, but that was not what I had in mind for this trip.
I'll return there when I have more time and after some thorough google maps consultation.
By that time I turned around, the fog had vanished and revealed a brilliant clear sky.
As it is nearby, I drove to one of my most favorite spots, accessible via the "Mautstraße von Wallgau nach Vorderriß".
Took a nice walk there, collected a few stones, enjoyed the scenery and took a few more pictures to document the changing of seasons and illumination.
Finally, on my way back home, I could not resist to make another quick stop at the "scenic picture point" I mentioned before... just to show how much the viability had changed.
Had a great time!
Hope you are all doing well and... get out there, enjoy nature and pick up some rocks!
