I found this rock working it's way up out the dirt on a tractor path between our gardens. At first I picked it up to toss it from the path but I noticed it was different than the red/ brown sandstone that fills our soil. (Think rocks separated by some dirt). Contemplating cleaning it up better as a specimen or tumbling it. I know what I'm leaning to but what are your thoughts?

I’d clean it up, so I could see what I have. Not a tumbler.

Looks like Quartz or Quartzite, If you have a Barrel big enough, I would first Put it in with some Borax, Dish soap and Media, Let it run for a few hours to over night, then take it out and see what it looks like, if it looks good and you got the barrel to handle it hells ya I would tumble it!

I would clean the rough edges on a 60 grit and then tumble to get an idea if it is good enough for tumbling.

Would love to see what it looks like after a Burnish run with soap and borax, got a hunch on what it is from what I can see on the side and I think it will be an awesome tumble.

I would tumble it if I had a tumbler big enough. (I would cut it up with my tile saw and throw it in the rotary for stage one then the lot o after that.)

Hand polish the exposed quartz with diamond discs leaving stone encasement (I'm sure it has a real name) intact. Sort of like a limb cast.
