Good morrow all!
I'm not sure what I'm liking more... tumbling rocks or playing with insane ideas to create a rock tumbler.
I'm writing in regards to the latter.
Now, I won't go in depth about my new plan to create a wind-powered tumbler, but I have another idea.
I got a salvaged orbital shaker from work. I'm going to provide a link here, as it shows the movement of the shaker in a short video available on this page:
Mine is almost identical. I don't know much about vibratory tumblers, I'm still looking into it, but I think having a vortex of slurry and rocks in a rounded basin (with a lid) attached to the top of this thing might do the trick.
Mostly I'm asking if anyone thinks its NOT possible and why. I'll have to figure out what kind of vessel to attach to the top, but it is pretty much ready-to-go once I do.
This thing can haul ace if you turn it up. Weight may be a factor, but I'm guessing I can push a 5 pound load on it. I took it home to use as a paint shaker. It works pretty good.
Anything I should consider before doing this? I'm guessing it will be a low-cost failure if it works out that way.
Editing to say I will definitely take pictures of the process, but these things are pricey and if a person could buy one they'd be better off just buying a tumbler.

First concern is running that machine continuously. Is it designed to run 24/7 ? Or just quick runs for mixing chemicals, liquids, etc.

It has different options, but one of them is continuous, they commonly get left on overnight. You can set like an erlenmeyer flask (i think) and stir for at least an overnight. It has a fuse if it overloads. I mean... you make a good point but I am willing to give it a shot.

Don’t know about the weight limit but it doesn’t seem to hurt to try, since the device is no longer used for its original purpose?
