Date: October 6. 2022 Weather: Sunny, clear sky, 65 °F Destination: River Walchen, Lake Sylvenstein, River Rißbach, Stream Schleifmühlbach, River Rißbach, Region "Oberes Isartal" This week the weather was extremely promising, so I thought I continue my search for another nice fossil in the region. This time - after my "misadventures" at river Leckbach - I thought I'd check out the little stream right next to it called Schleifmühlbach.
But first I needed to refill my gas and what better place to do that than in Austria. Why you might ask? Well... in Bavaria one Gallon is 7,8 USD. NOT cheap by any stretch of the imagination.
So in Austria the same Gallon - due to less ridiculous taxation - sets me back 6,5 USD. Cheap? No.
But "cheaper enough" to justify a 10 minute detour as I'm in the region anyway. On my way back from the detour I made a few stops at river Walchen to check out a few new spots and ... check for stones. After that: Off to a few pictures in the Sylvenstein region to document the season change and then... the Austrian part of river Rißbach and the little stream Schleifmühlbach awaited.
Great trip up the stream - unfortunately again no fossiles. Still all worth it, especially after visiting the German region of river Rißbach for some more photos and a little snack at one of my favorite spots,
accessible through that toll road to Wallgau. Was great fun to be all over the place - especially at a day like this.

I swear Gabriel...it's like paging through a coffee table book when I scroll through your threads! I loved seeing the Autumn colors coming out...and it was nice to see you include that one picture of the "wildlife" in the area!

I thoroughly enjoyed all those pictures, Gabriel! The trees changing colors are stunning. I was just disappointed you didn't find a Hen of the Woods mushroom (my favorite).

Looks like you found more of those funky rocks with stuff in them, still wondering what they are.
My question is if you get out during the winter as well ?
Snowshoes ?
Look forward to it.

And yea... the Autumn colors are really intense now. On a sunny day like this it's kinda crazy.

... gotta love them funky rocks, right? I'll cut some of them once I have my lapidary saw.
Honestly... Autumn is nice and all, but I am REALLY looking forward to the white hills and mountains contrasted by black trees.
Maybe some half frozen waterfalls... One can dream - and I'll find out anyway.
