Went with the club last Saturday to the Kramer Hills location that is a few miles southeast of Kramer Junction.
This place is a tumblers paradise. As the pics will show the ground is literally covered with a variety of material. The orangeish palm bog material is gorgeous as is the grey and black toned stuff. The golden brown jasper takes a beautiful polish and what looks like a rough stone ends up shining like a jewel.
Here we are at the main site: the old Key Kay claim, which is a small hill littered with pits that produce different materials and colors:
Here’s a few shots of what you are walking on at the Key Kay:
After the Key Kay we headed over to the smoky colored palm root/bog material, about a half mile northeast of the Key Kay. No pics here, I was too busy gathering material. Much of this stuff displays the rootlets and bark like pieces on the exterior that grade into the agate on the interior. Some pieces you can follow the piece thru the stone from one end to another.
Here is a pic of some of the days finds:
and here are some pics of tumbled material from our trip there last March:
This gives a little idea of the variety of material found, sometimes laying a foot or so apart from each other. I’m still rolling the orange toned material and also there is multi-toned material with black veining running throughout it which looks like it should come out pretty good. There is also multi toned common opal all over the place out here, I have some ready for stage 2 just waiting on more material to get a full run in a 3lb barrel. Tough to find non fractured pieces of it.
vance71975 you should get an idea of how some of the stuff I sent you will turn out. See if you can figure out which stone are which!
Thanks for the read, hopefully some of you can live vicariously through my trip like I do through yours lol!
