Hey Folks, We just got a large shipment of Flower/Fireworks Obsidian in, and with this having been our first time working it; we were a little surprised to see that the majority of it is pretty punky and impure looking, and looks like it'll fall apart when cutting.
Is it normally like this? I know most peanut obsidian, which I believe comes from the same area, is like this and falls apart easily. Did we just get a bad mine run batch, or does this normally need treated to cab?
We will be putting some in the saws over the weekend. Perhaps it will cut better than the majority of it looks.

I don't know about rough, but I've had some punky slabs.

Yeah, we took one end off so far and it was like that. Some does look better than others. Guess we'll just have to see how it goes this weekend.

Brian, we got a couple of chunks at Q one year and wondered the same thing. Even the solid stuff isn't easy to get a consistent shine on. It's cool, but we were expecting something more glassy when they called it "obsidian". Have seen really good cabs cut from it, and some just so-so.
