agatewhisperer Really nice. I like seeing the markings on your slab. I think I’d want to do one over on the right to include that skinny little agate trail reaching into the matrix. Oh, also I think I’m needing to try a 2nd one too. Not happy with my first. The matrix has been challenging. Yeah so that one on the right was the first shot. There's a mountain in the mist on that one that was really cool looking. But after cutting and polishing it, you really couldn't see it very well. |

Same reason I chose different material this month. I actually hadn’t planned using thunderegg for last month’s contest. I just kinda happened. But that circle cab was actually a different shape prior because the matrix is so soft and crumbling. I didn’t want to play that game again without stabilizing those eggs first. I think this month will give most a challenge. |

I’m out on this one as well. No Thundereggs here either. I am looking forward to seeing what comes out of this competition! I’ve always thought thundereggs were boring and dull thanks to the currently rockhounding YouTube channel. He’s always going on about them and everyone he shows is… meh.
After seeing last months winning cab and realrockhounds entry this month I’m beginning to rethink my stance on them. Those are looking pretty nice!

It's been a weird month for me and I know there's only 10 days left but if anyone wants a half dozen pieces to play with at the cost of a small flat rate box ($9 domestic US) send me a PM. Act quickly and I'll send it tomorrow and you would probably have it by the long TG weekend? I don't have a lot of really fancy pieces but it's enough to experience the joy and heart break of making cabs out of t-eggs and get you into the contest. As a side note I don't remember ever stabilizing a t-egg cabochon that I made. When I initially slice them I would test and if they broke they broke and I only kept stable pieces. My point is if you take me up on this I don't 'think' that stabilization would be needed on anything I have to send. Justinliveoakkhara |

Justin I am totally with you when it comes to the run of the mill T-egg. It's hard for me to keep a pokerface when being shown someones prized collection at times, and after having a devoted saw cutting nothing but eggs for a couple weeks to find very few I would keep or even process further to sell, out of already sorted specimens, I am reminded why I don't usually cut eggs. Plus all that mud in the saw that builds up so quickly. Funny thing is, the one I chose was an end cut hiding on my bench from some box we sorted through awhile back that I found when looking for something else I misplaced. Now it's time to get off me @$$ and get-r-done...

BTW, I guess I still have a bit more than I thought I did. I think I picked out a nice piece to work on  There's never a bad time to roll out a drawer in the cabinet so why not.  |

Does the rhyolite have to be visible on the dome? I never stated specifically where the matrix had to be included. cabs just have to include matrix. When choosing a theme, I was trying to make a skill them. in my mind, I picturing doming the soft matrix into the hard agate. But I’m not going to be nit picky. Being creative is part of the challenge. |
