Richardson’s ranch thunderegg 30mm cab. Creative and nice looking cab. I swear if I didn’t know that was from a Richardson egg, I’d say its Maury moss. I got Maury that’s dead ringer.

realrockhound I agree, the red and green moss agate from Richardson’s does look a lot like Maury mountain material. You dig any Maury moss agate? I’ve dug too much haha. Inherited even more. Location is like 45 minutes from my house, so been out there quite a bit.

Bravura Cabochon Designs What?! That is crazy. Really cool. I’ve never seen a thunderegg “core” like that. And don’t really have much or any experience cutting rough material so don’t know yet about cutting rocks from different directions other than just seeing the end result in slab form, like dino bone cut looking at the circular shape of the cells versus cut 90 degrees to that where the cells basically look like stripes. Anyway cool pics, thanks for posting them, along with the cutting “diagram”! 🤓

I’ve dug too much haha. Inherited even more. Location is like 45 minutes from my house, so been out there quite a bit. I’ve seen some really big piles of moss agate from Maury, most undercut so bad you wonder why anyone would pick it up. Do have one spectacular piece though, so there must be some prized material to be found for someone with an eye for picking solid rock. It’s a crap shoot with Maury. The stuff that has more agate inclusion tends to undercut less. But I agree, some is just junk as far as I’m concerned. I’ll get around to cutting up a bunch of cabs and posting the variety. That’s the one cool thing about Maury, lots and lots of variety in such a small area all things considered.

Dang. I was hoping if you said thunderegg 3 times, thunderegg-juice would appear.

I was just messing with you. I figured that was the case, that your images weren’t uploading. I use cloudinary, so I’m of no assistance. Maybe try logging out of everything and restarting the process?

I have no clue what’s causing it. I see your other pics posted in the cabs channel. No clue why they aren’t here.

Sorry you're having trouble Victor - maybe it was an app update gone wrong. I have no experience with Tapatalk and they are a 3rd party app unrelated to Proboards so users are kind of on their own with it.

Just doing a test picture with Tapatalk to see if I have the same issue as Victor. This is my slab for the contest though.
EDIT - Picture moved to entry post...

Glad you got it working victor1941@vanilla_gorilla I dropped the ball. I was hoping since t-eggs are so common that it would make for a big turnout as it seems like everyone has them and there is so much variety with them. Also with it being more of a skill theme, figured it’d make more people want to try their hand and cabbing an egg. Suppose that’s what I get for assuming.

So here's a scrap slab I had laying around... LOL I actually got this Poppa Bob Thunderegg slab from realrockhound . We were talking on the phone and I happened to "delicately" mention I had a bunch of Thundereggs, but doubt I had anything that would be a contender in the contest. His version of the conversation would be that I was whining about it! LOL - Either way...this slab showed up in the mail about a week ago. Awesome cab, I might have to go back to the drawing board lol! He told me the matrix might be a little sketchy on this piece...but it held together...thank goodness! LOL - I knew that center section of matrix would be okay as it seemed to be compressed by being surrounded by the agate. The top edge though...I was worried that would crumble...but nope! I'm hoping he's regretting sending me this slab right now! LOL
