The pups and I are going for a four day trip from home, Mendocino, to San Luis Obispo. We will be camping overnight and also visiting Atascadero for our dentist, and SLO for the Reindeer Run. In between, we want to rock hound. I'm specifically looking for trails in the Morgan Hill area where we can find poppy jasper that is not on private land. But, I would also like some other good rockhounding areas not by the ocean.
We have large amounts of brecciated jaspers, plenty of beach agates, chert, etc. from the ocean. We recently found brown chalcedony in Atascadero. We brought a lot of it home. I want some new and different rocks. Hit me with your suggestions, please!

There is a quartz Crystal location north of San Luis Obispo right below the microwave relay tower that is a little west of the botanical area. I went there many years ago but never made it all the way to the site, my wife was freaking out on the road up there. We got about 2 miles away from it. A lot of the road is paved but it is narrow and runs across the top of the mountains. The turn off as at the 101 and Cuesta Summit.
