Looks like a classic "Pecos Diamond" wind-worn double terminated quartz crystal.

The id depends on where you are from. Geologically is it a double terminated, twinned quartz crystal(pic 1 & 4). However, if you are a Star Trek fan they are dilithium crystals. They used Quartz Crystals on the show for dilithium.

Definitely quartz shape but there are no striations on the prisms though so my money would be on saber52’s ID.

Those are great, you should see if anyone else in the family knows where he may have collected them from. If there are any local rock/mineral clubs nearby you can see if they recognize it or maybe even if they knew your Grandfather, that is assuming he is no long with us.
