So I want a vibe tumbler, and untill all the motor issues I did want a lot-o, but since I cant count on that not to break down, I was looking around and I realized, the next most suggested tumblers, there is no way I can afford ( Mini Sonic and UV 10). So I was looking around and I found a number of Vibe tumblers designed for doing metal parts or ammo casings and they are far far far cheaper, My question is, would any of the work for rocks? One would think if it will move and polish 5lbs of metal parts then it shouldnt have a problem moving and polishing 5lbs of rock and media.

Vance, you might want to do a search on the forum for " Harbor Fright Vibe". Here's one link I found, but I'm sure there's others. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/22991/harbor-freight-vibe-tumbler-trialI know I've read about a couple of people trying them. Not sure the bottom line, except that I know it would only be for polishing (but I think you probably knew that). Let us know what your investigation finds

vance - I've heard that those tumblers are for DRY medium only. I don't know that for a fact but I think the suggestion I saw was for using dry corn cobb or walnut shell and not for any liquid. Don't hold my feet to the fire on this but you might want to call the vendor that has them and ask if they can be used with wet medium. You can probably call the manufacturer as well and get a good answer as to wet use or dry use only. The other suggestion is that someone on this site said the Ultra Vibe is a good buy for the buck. I think they sell for around $110.00. It was also noted that it is a bit noisy because of the plastic bowl, but it does a good job of polishing. I'd hate to see you spend hard earned money on something that is designed for brass shell casings. Again, a call to the manufacturer would be good info. Look them up on the computer and they should have a contact number or address for them.

These vibe tumbles have thin, soft plastic that will not hold up long to the sharp edges of rocks.
They also are not built as tough, having lighter weight springs for one as they are not designed for the weight of the rocks and water.
