My wife just surprised me with a birthday trip to the Phoenix/Sedona area for 4 nights in two weeks (1/9-1/13)! Looking for any pointers on good places to rock hound in that area. It's my birthday, so I think I can pull more days of hounding than sight seeing. Thanks for any help!

I have no specific suggestions Stew
you both have really have great time just looking at the Buttes
and of course Oak Creek Canyon
and you'll want to put Jerome on your list
others will chime in with specifics cause I'm interested too!
in Phoenix have to do Papago Park set up day at the Zoo its really cool

Definitely use one of your days in Phoenix to drive down to Quartzsite. About a 2 hr. drive maybe, depending on where you're staying. You'll be too early for Tony's BBQ, but the vendors will be open (including Tony - follow the humongous tumbler noise). It would be awful to be so close and not go.
Not much hounding in Sedona, I don't think - it's mostly red rocks, but it is beautiful.

Ahhh, yeah, she booked the trip and then told me the week and I said, we leave the day before catmandewe party... oh well. I am just happy to be able to go whenever. catmandewe is there a day the week before the BBQ that would work for me to come out and meet you and possibly look through the piles in your yard? Thanks for all the help so far!

Thanks for all the help so far! The big piles in my rock yard are in Idaho and covered in snow. I do have quite a bit here in Quartzsite though. After Jan 1 we are open 7 days a week from at least 9 to 5, come by whenever you want. The BBQ this year is on the 21st, with the RTH get together on the 20th. Tony

Haha, catmandewe I know that and had a brain fart as to where your yard was... that's a little far south. We will definitely make it to check out your digs at Quartzite. drocknut she is a keeper for sure! She doesn't know it, but she has slowly become a rockhound.
