It's been a while but was able to crank one out. This was a piece of Moroccan seam agate taunting me and then I realized it looked loosely like a triangle. The pattern kept changing the further I went! It was originally a little longer but needless to say, I had to make a donation to the swear jar πΆβπ«οΈ Fuuuuuddddddggggeeee There's nothing "loosely" about that cab my friend! Killer girdle line...and an overall spectacular cab!

agatewhisperer Very nice.π I have a similarly shaped cab rough cut at this point that also contributed to the swear jar in exactly the same way.π€

Here's my slab of Moroccan Agate. I was looking for an eye shape and this was the best one of my meager collection. Here are my entry pictures. The eye of Providence Cabochon.

Here's my entry: Mexican Fire OpalHere's the rough piece it came from. This is my first time cutting opal. This pice had a lower section that showed signs of color, so I decided to try and grind down to expose that layer. I had plans to put a backing on the piece to build it up for a ring setting, but thats a whole other thing that I might revisit once I try to set the cab. I've cut my fingernails since this pic. Dont worry. Here's the cab cut on the end of my finger so you can see to scale the size it is. Here will be my entry photos. Side and front. Kind of a pain in the ass to get the colors to capture in a photo, so messing around with a light and angles, this is best I could get. I know this cab wont be good enough to win or as good as it could be, but with what I had to work with, it is what it is. Cutting cabs out of a rough piece with no stencil lines, girdle lines etc.. is a challenge unto itself. Anyways... Enjoy.

opalpyrexia love how you captured the pattern of the bands with that shape. Beautiful! victor1941 you did a great job on a beautiful agate! agatewhisperer I would have never guessed that the final shape was a save. Dang! Those lines are perfect!

Yours is pretty sweet too. At first I thought it was faceted or something but on closer inspection it's the reflection because it's a mirror finish!

Here's mine, a triple triassic triangle. Assembled from dino bone picked up from my favorite dino dealer at the PowWow Friday and capped with quartz. It consists of an isoceles triangle between 2 obtuse triangles (obtuse is something I do well) to make a relatively equilateral triangle, within commercial tolerances anyway. Made mostly on my Al Sesona vertical lap, finished on the genie and the slow wheel with cerium. No Voodo mind tricks or 3rd hands. Dino slabettes Glued up and ready to cap Fresh off the wheels. Obligatory side dome shot. Light box glam shots. Last one can be the contest shot. The video

Question for you guys? Whatβs the purpose of the quartz cap? Was the material too thin so you built it up, or does it magnify and add effect? Or does it have some other purpose? Just curious
