Just wanted to share some images of some rocks I just got from Dan @ KinesavaRocks. Mahogany obsidian which I'm very excited to have - looking forward to working with this. I may slab it, chunk it and try to cab it, but I don't want to waste any of it so I'm not rushing into doing anything until I feel a little more comfortable. The other I have no idea what type of rock, but look at all of those eyes! Dan (his Dad) calls(ed) it Golden Swirl but you can see all of the eyes - there is a pocket that when I look in there I can see the crinoid legs - so fascinated by this rock. I'm really struggling with if I should cut it or leave it natural. I'm thinking I'll take a slab off the bottom so I can polish some 'eyes', but leave the rest as is so I can enjoy the druzy pockets and pockets of crinoids (that's what we think this is - any other ideas if you disagree?). I wish I could get a good picture inside the pocket, but alas....He also sent me some horn coral fossils. OMGosh, I've never been so happy to use my loupe and look at the fascinating features. Said I'm totally geeking out here and I love it! haha. I work for a state university and we get a free tuition benefit - I'm currently working on finishing my undergrad, but I will definitely be taking a geology course when I'm all finished. Anyways - just wanted to share the rock love . Happy Friday the 13th - have a wonderful weekend!

Yeah...I'd be totally "geeking" out over that second one as well!! I think I'd be tempted to do as you said...take a slice, face polish it, and leave the rest natural. I'm not a real "specimen" person...but sometimes rocks deserve to be left "as is"! Oh...and I've spent a lot of time looking through my loupe at Fairburns and Teepee Canyon Agates I've found...so you're not alone! LOL

But they are enjoying my enjoyment. I've not seen Fairburn or Teepee Canyon agates, I don't think - or if I have I didn't know what they were. I just love agates period. You never know what you'll get with them and it's exciting to see them 'develop'.

If you do a search on here for "Fairburn" you'll find a thread from MikeT...it has a LOT of Fairburn examples...the thread is called Fairburn Friday. If you do a search on here for "Teepee Canyon Agates" you'll find a thread from me...which has a LOT of Teepee Canyon examples.

And I have no idea how I missed your post with the auction - I was a member then, but did not see it. I truly hope our RTH friend is doing ok.

I'm glad you found them...I was kinda lazy this morning and didn't want to look up the links! LOL One thing I do...'cause I'm nosy about every thread on the forum LOL...I don't go through every subforum any more (pretty much because I've been in all the threads from the last two years! LOL). I just hit the "Recent Topics" link and just peruse the threads that have updated since the last time I was on the forum.

I have more excited jitters cutting Teepee Canyon Nodules than I do Thundereggs...just the chance there could be some AMAZING fortifications hidden in there! LOL
