Hello everyone. My name is Allen and I've been tumblin rocks for about a year and a half now. Just purchased a lot o tumbler and have been tryin it for 6 days now. I fill my barrel to the curved part of the barrel then almost to the top with small and large ceramic media. I then fill it with water then dump it all out usin my fingers as a strainer. Once I start the tumbler everything moves like I see in the videos. But after about 24 hours it turns into sludge and barely rotates. Any advice?

Hey Allen! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! Tumbling a year and a half and you're just NOW joining the forum?!? (Just teasing! LOL) From the sounds of what you're describing, I'd be spritzing some water in it. If I get sludge that's so thick it's impeding movement, adding a couple squirts from a water bottle usually loosens things up again. (I have a UV-18...not a Lot-O) EDIT TO ADD: Maybe the Lot-O's different...but I never fill my barrel ALL the way to the top...

I'm very new to the Lot O myself but it does sound like it needs a few sprits of water. Just enough to get the rocks moving again. I had to move the dowel rod on mine to get the rocks "a rollen". Great tutorials from Michigan Rocks youtube channel , he is "jugglerguy" here on the forum. Such as I believe the motor situation has been worked out as the lot o's are being shipped with a different motor but the dowel rod placement is important.

Welcome Allen from Southern Nevada.
I wonder if something you are adding is too soft and turning to a thick mud?

allenkates, if you want information about moving the dowel rod, let me know . I would be glad to help. Hint. It's best to adjust the dowel while the machine is running to find the sweet spot on your machine. The sweet spot for mine is the same as in Robs video I shared.

Thanks for the help guys!! I followed y'alls advice. I cleaned the media and rocks and dud everything as usual again. This time I added another half a cap of water then the 2 tblspn of grit. Everything seems to be rollin better. I'll know more in the mornin. It's usually turnin into sludge by then lol!! As far as the dowel rod I did follow Michigan Rocks and put it 2.5 centimeters from the inner screw. Fingers crossed it doesn't turn jnto sludge again 🙄. Thanks a million for the replies!!
