Date: February 1. 2023
Weather: Cloudy, light snowfall, 32°F
Destination: Sylvensteinsee Damm, Ausgangskatarakt, Schürpfen Wasserfall, Kiesbankschwälle (Lenggries)
Bad forecasts all week... so I just went out on Wednesday anyways to check out some areas I've never explored.
Short mandatory stop at Sylvensteinsee Damm, then on to the new area.
I found a parking spot nearby, so I only had about a 30 minute walk ahead of me.
Enjoy and get out!

Bad forecasts all week... so I just went out on Wednesday anyways to check out some areas I've never explored.
Short mandatory stop at Sylvensteinsee Damm, then on to the new area.
I found a parking spot nearby, so I only had about a 30 minute walk ahead of me.
Packed my things and off I walked. A forest road leads all the way to the three destinations - from above / a distance.
So I took some pictures at the bridge spawning over the canyon "Ausgangskatarakt" that later opens into the "Kiesbankschwälle" and walked on towards the "Schürpfen Wasserfall".
A couple of minutes later I stood in the middle of the bridge spawning that canyon and had a look at an amazing, frozen over waterfall.
Through the clear ice I could see the water rushing beneath it, it was just beautiful... and a question formed in my mind:
Given the fact that I basically had seen all my destinations for the day now, but "only" from a distance, how could I get there... more close a personal.I had noticed a little forest trail earlier and given the facts that this was completely unknown territory, all slopes where really steep and covered in snow,
some areas had a layer of fallen leaves under the snow which made them into perfect "slip traps" and I was - as usual - seemingly the only person around far and wide,
the trail seemed the safest bet. (Oh boy, did I just create an abomination of a sentence.)
The trail soon de-evolved into something a tracker might use, but I like going off track anyways so I kept pushing forward.
Throughout all that I had to be careful as the snowy ground can be really treacherous,
especially when foolish me tries to climb up a steep hill for a better view to the waterfall and all the little rocks under the snow start to move... down.
Gotta love some small trees you can grab an hold on to.
And one should listen keenly while walking. If you hear running water... maybe proceed with caution and grab a stick to check the "ground" in front of you.
Or just do not proceed.
So I did my best to get as close as possible to the waterfall under the circumstances and enjoyed the little adventure a lot.
On the way back I also decided to stay on "lake level" to check out the "Kiesbankschwälle" up close.
"Kies" means gravel... and gravel could mean a nice rock or two.
Did that, enjoyed the scenery and ... picked up a few nice stones to have a little memento to this day.The weather was bad, the day was great.
I shall definitely return in the summer.
The waterfall will be much more "accessible" by then and I might even by able to advance into the canyon.
Enjoy and get out!
Don't let bad weather ruin your day!
