My postal lady thinks it's funny when boxes of rocks show up, but I suspect I'm in the minority. However, when it comes to frustration with mailing, I've had similar experiences. Most notably, I ordered a box of aluminum oxide for my shop (50# worth). Paid for it to be delivered via Puralator, to my house (the closest depot is ~30 mins away). So I order and wait...and wait... then I get a call from a weird number on my phone. Puralator manager wanting to know what's in the box I'm expecting because it's leaking suspicious white powder all over the place and they're "concerned". Turns out the shipper just dumped a giant plastic bag (zip tied closed) into a cardboard box, added some tape and sent it. Not even a reinforced box, so the bottom was giving out. What a mess. I had to go to the city to claim it and sign a release waiver saying it wasn't a dangerous substance, wasn't anthrax, etc. To be fair, the manager wasn't rude about it, had kind of a laugh about it after I explained what it was & told him it would only harm him if he was eating it. Still lost about 2 pounds of material though (in hindsight not a big deal since it was the wrong particle size anyways, ughhhhhh). The company I ordered it from were real asses about it when I complained too. I'm glad your friend was able to get her box eventually. Some people really need to learn to chill out. Also, fun fact but catmandewe & amygdule it's impossible to exceed the weight limit (70 pounds) on USPS small flat rate boxes!
