Good looking stuff! The yellow and grey one is very interesting. Which one exactly?

Now that I looked again it is these two I really like: and They have some awesome patterns in them!! Yes those are some of our favorites. ‘Jaspagates’ is what we call them. Jaspers mixed with chalcedonys. Sometimes they have the mustard yellow iron oxide coloring and others the red kind. They are often hiding under a thick layer of chert or calcite like stuff. It’s really cool how they slowly emerge over months of tumbling. I’m polishing one like that first one you like for my wife that’s three times the size. It’s tumbling in stage 3 right now, has its own 3lb barrel and a lot of small ceramics to cushion. I’ve been working on it for over 3 months now…That 2nd one has a very unique pattern. It also glows beautifully when backed by a light. Did any of those I sent you turn out like this? I didn’t know their rough characteristics quite yet back then, so I may not have included any. I think I need to send you another box here in the coming weeks. Now that the kid is back and I’m feeling better we’ve started collecting rocks again.

I've got 6lb barrel of Pet Wood you sent me going I have't done any of the other stuff yet. I will post some pictures of how the Pet Wood is coming along next weekend. I'm open for another trade - that would be cool. Shoot me a PM. I have a busy week at work this week, but I can definitely connect next weekend.

I’m still moving slow also, so over the next couple months is fine, my friend. I’ll let you know when I have a good collection put together for you and we’ll go from there.

dillonf Here’s one of my wife’s favorite rocks, the one I mentioned the other day. Just finished stage 2 and moving onto stage 3. Here’s another one also you may like. It’s been tumbling for months and all this detail has just come out in the last 2 runs.

Initially the rocks are mostly that solid yellow color and, more often than not, plain old chert underneath. Sometimes though (like 1 in 15), as it tumbles the underlying rock turns out to be chalcedony. On this rock, all of that yellow is swirling just below the surface. It’s really cool looking under a 30x magnifying glass.

dillonfYou are doing an excellent job with those! Now that first video, that is not petrified wood. It’s one of those banded cherts/jaspers that’s actually mixed with Calcedony. I bet the more you tumble it the more agate-like it will look in areas. Actually, all of the videos, except for the last one, look like different forms of what we refer to as Jasp-agates or Texas agates. That fourth one is one of my favorite kind of agate type rocks to find. I love it when those start to uncover during the tumble. Really cool!! I am very happy you got some good ones.

I had to get an MRI today on my foot I broke near two years ago that never healed, and on the way home I pulled into a rock yard to explore because that’s my idea of a playground. I was checking out the Laredo River rock pile and saw this guy staring up at me. Literally I mean, it was like an eye in a way. So I grabbed it and just threw it in some 20% concentrated vinager to clean it up. Before I did that I sprayed it down with water and wow! I can’t wait to get it in the tumbler soon as I have a free barrel.

I’ve worked on this piece of petrified wood all year. The color and detail are amazing! It’s finally ready to hit the vibe and finish off. I think it will shine up beautifully. It was originally part of a larger piece I broke up, that looks rather plain. I was so surprised how it’s turned out. Just wish I could remember where I put the other pieces of it…

That's ridiculous you have such easy access to beautiful rocks. I am envious!

That's ridiculous you have such easy access to beautiful rocks. I am envious! It is nice. We do have to look for the good ones though. There’s tons of regular old chert. From breaking many rocks, we’ve come to recognize the features that the good ones have. There’s just a o much rock has been brought to this area from all around Texas due to the constant construction. We also have a large amount of fossils, which construction digs are good for. I forgot to take a picture of the big fossil clam the kid found in the dry lake bottom. It’s the size of her fist.

It’s tumbling in stage 3 right now, has its own 3lb barrel and a lot of small ceramics to cushion. Perhaps not the place to ask this but the subject came up so .... I picked up some BIG rocks on my foray to Lake Superior ... probably just more "pretties" but larger than my usual "big" rocks .. maybe 3-4 inches rather than the usual 2 inch max. Question is ... do you think they can be tumbled in the HF Double Barrel 3 pounder as long as they seem to be able to move around and not stick to the sides . Am assuming that I can put in some smalls to cushion and carry grit and that even with the resulting size reduction, they will be too big to go into the Ray-tech 10 so would have to be finished in the rotary.

Thats not too big far as my experience, but a picture would help also. I polish 3-4” rocks in my raytech 5, so you may be surprised at the size rock you can do.

Will try one in the Vibe the next time it is empty and see how it moves. Am working on "the picture" thingy .... one technical issue at a time is all I can handle and the vibe has priority just now !
