I agree with you, velodromed , it does get a bit chaotic trying to keep track of it all. I’ve been keeping track of dates and such on my physical calendar, but just started keeping a journal with detailed info on dates, which rocks I’ve added to coarse grind, what they look like, who they came from, etc. I just ordered another 33B that’ll be here next week, so it seems like time to knuckle down and keep better records. Another tumbler-WHOOHOOO!! Congrats on the new tumbler! Thanks, dillonf!

I really like how this one turned out. I don’t remember quite where we found it. Somewhere around here. It took several months to polish. When I found it, it looked like a piece of mustard yellow chert. After three or four course runs, I could see the chalcedony peaking out from beneath so kept it going.

There’s some cool layers in that rock, velodromed.

Nice looking rock! Cool patterns. I found one a while back that is somewhat similar, but the inclusions are a bit more blocky. I'll try to remember to post some pics when it gets further along!

Three of our favorite finds. The Avacado rock my wife found in the Llano river, Belles favorite big Painted Jasper she found at the park and the first rock I tumbled/polished, a Jasp-Agate. Please note that we make up the names for local rocks we find that we don’t know the proper name of. We try to come up with names that actually describe the rock, but sometimes they end up as Fred, Herman or Pam.

This is a great thread and I'm glad that I found it. I found some great rocks near Laredo earlier this year and have been very pleased with the results. I'm looking at going back once it cools down in that area. I may start a thread to post the finds and then the tumbled results as they progress. Thanks for the inspiration.

Seeing and reading all of this keeps me inspired to keep going at this rockhounding and tumbling thing. I just got the Thumlers Tumbler Model B and I have a big load of rocks just like the ones seen in this thread going through Step One right this very moment.

Thank you for letting me know this. It feels nice knowing I’ve inspired someone. I’ve had to slow down a good bit while moving, but will be back at it in a few weeks or so. Can’t wait to see your larger rocks once done so make sure to post pictures.

After picking up the kid from school, we stopped on the way home to explore a pile of rocks. She found this beautiful piece of bluish Calcedony. I am hesitating throwing it in the Tumbler because I rather like it’s (botryoidal?) features.

The kid found this yesterday. She thinks it looks like petrified bone. I’ve no idea what it is. What do y’all think? If you haven't figure it out yet, I'm FAR from an expert at IDing things...that being said, my first impression was in total agreement with her. Tagging Fossilman to see what he thinks...

I can’t believe this rock that the kid and I found… …turned into this… …after just two weeks tumbling in course grit! Texas moss agate. I can’t wait to polish it after a few more course runs.

We found this weird rock at the beginning of the year. We named it Fred. Fred is finally done with the course stages after nearly 8 months, and now I’m hoping he fits in the vibe. Fred is a strange but cool looking rock and we can’t wait to see him polished up!
