You had a good day! Dumb questions: 1. What's the difference between a Prairie Agate and a Bubble Gum Agate? 2. What's the difference between a Fairburn signer and a Fairburn?

There are so many amazing finds! That fortified bird poop is so inconvenient Thanks PS! Yeah...I had to laugh about the bird poop! It's not the first time that crap has fooled me...from a distance! LOL Thanks Chris! I only went tumbling down one hill yesterday...so it was a really good day! LOL You had a good day! Dumb questions: 1. What's the difference between a Prairie Agate and a Bubble Gum Agate? 2. What's the difference between a Fairburn signer and a Fairburn? Thanks Robin!! Not dumb questions!! 1. A "Prairie Agate" isn't really an agate! It's a "catch-all" phrase for many of the different jaspers OR chert...many of which have "banding" (not fortifications). A Bubble Gum Agate is more of a "conglomerate" of pieces around a core. Remember...I don't have a geology degree...just stating what I've observed. 2. A Fairburn Signer is a "wannabe" Fairburn Agate. Basically, there's a fortification of sorts...which mimics the "maple-leaf" type pattern of an actual Fairburn Agate. From what I can decipher, there is usually only a couple layers to the fortification pattern in a Signer...and they're white or opaque. An actual Fairburn Agate will have multiple bands to the fortification pattern...and additional colors to the fortification layers. The actual Fairburn Agate I found has yellow and brown bands to the fortification...not many bands...and not very thick...which is why I consider it a "weak" Fairburn Agate...but still a Fairburn! LOL

Thanks for the tag! I can get in early on this one! Great finds for sure and I have a feeling this is going to be a great rockhound season for you up there.

Thanks for the tag! I can get in early on this one! Great finds for sure and I have a feeling this is going to be a great rockhound season for you up there. Thanks Scott! I had to shake my head when I found the Fairburn...I grabbed it before I could even think twice! I kept telling myself to TAKE A PIC before I pick it up - if I find one! Nope! Didn't happen! That's why I knew I had to tag you on the "in shitu" pic! LOL I think you might be right about hounding this summer. There's been a fair amount of heavy snow to allow for the movement of the rocks. There's the East Buttes and the West Buttes. I like both. (They're just separated by the county road heading south.) I went to the West Buttes yesterday. I know of an area over on the East Buttes which erodes a lot faster...so I'm a bit stoked to get over there as soon as possible to see what got unearthed this winter...

That black and yellow one is cool. The first thing I thought of was dung beetle tracks in coprolite.

Well, look who didn't get skunked! You got quite a haul. I'm glad you had a nice break, too. Looking forward to seeing even more next time.

Nice finds, my friend. Nothing wrong with the Fairburn- I like it. And I've seen more fortifications that weren't actually fortifications than ones that were- maybe not in hot dog buns, though! 🤣

Jason all the rocks are great, but I especially LIKE the flipped over kitchen hand towel used to display them. Much better than the proverbial ugly towel.

Well, look who didn't get skunked! You got quite a haul. I'm glad you had a nice break, too. Looking forward to seeing even more next time. Thanks Tela! I forgot how peaceful it can be while out there...I'm definitely watching the weather to see when next time is going to be already! LOL Nice finds, my friend. Nothing wrong with the Fairburn- I like it. And I've seen more fortifications that weren't actually fortifications than ones that were- maybe not in hot dog buns, though! 🤣 Thanks Mike! I have quite a few that are in that same category of Fairburns...just enough to say it's a Fairburn! LOL - I'm still hoping THIS year is going to be the year I find a monster...of course, I've been saying that for three years now! LOL Jason all the rocks are great, but I especially LIKE the flipped over kitchen hand towel used to display them. Much better than the proverbial ugly towel. Thanks Mark! LOL - Yeah...thanks for calling me out on that towel! LOL - When I started taking pics with that as the background, I actually thought of the "grief" I'd given to others about using ugly towels! LOL I got some grief from my wife for using it also...she told me to put it in the hamper when I was done...since it WAS clean before I started spritzing water all over the dirty rocks. I just figured the OTHER side was still clean for her. I knew she didn't agree with that as I got "the look"! LOL Those would actually make some nice tumbles. Thanks RRH! I've got enough Bubble Gum Agates around here to make a full load plus...if I ever get my tumbler going again! LOL

Better be careful of those wash outs. One mad badger story was funny, two, not so much.
