Better be careful of those wash outs. One mad badger story was funny, two, not so much. You ain't whistlin' Dixie on that one!! True story: About 10 years ago I was putting in a fence around the property. I had a one-man auger to dig the post holes. I had the utility lines marked by calling 411...so I thought I was being careful. Well...I nicked the main power line coming into the house as it was nowhere near where they had marked. The auger didn't go into the wire, but it compromised the coating. So...being the brainyack that I am, I decided to wrap electrical tape around it. I was lucky I didn't electrocute myself. But I had to go headfirst down into the hole to reach the wire. I got past my center of gravity and was 100% stuck in that hole! My neighbor happened to come out and thankfully they were strong enough to grab my belt and pull me out...or I would've been sleeping there that night! LOL

Good news is that you didn't get skunked. Glad you got out of the hole without being electrocuted. That could have been a shocking story. (Do you see what I did there? , ok so not as good as your comments but I had to try...lol).

LOL I know it wasn't a "current" story...but I was pretty "amped" up to get out of that hole. I felt pretty "powerless" in that situation...and I do remember saying to myself, "Ohm in trouble"!! LOL

I'm glad hummingbirdstones asked those two questions because I would if she hadn't, I would have. Now I know the answers. I'm so excited to see that place for myself. I might need to rent a U-Haul for the ride home.

When I met up with Brent ( Starguy) and his wife, I took them out there to this same area. I still remember Brent saying, "You could take a shovel full of any of this rock out here and it's going to polish up in a tumbler!" I want to take you out to either this area where I was at the other day - only slightly further in...or out to the East Buttes. I know there aren't a lot of people who go in as far as I'd like to take you...which means less picked over material. On the other hand, the place in the East Buttes erodes faster. I might have to go out again and scout out the East Buttes before you get here. The reason I didn't go further in on the West Buttes this week was potential wash out on the road. I wasn't sure how stable it was/is. I bet that instills confidence in where we're going!! LOL

I was up on Lake Superior this year pretty early. There was at least a foot of water on the road I drove down and maybe more. There were still rock hunters out, but not like on a nice day in July. There weren't any bugs either, even though it was over seventy out.

You found some nice stuff! The yellow and black one jumped out at me too. I'm afraid if I got into those prairie agates I wouldn't be able to carry my buckets!

I'm hoping to try RR Buttes this Spring, maybe this coming week if work permits. It's a couple hours drive for me vs 20min to Tepee areas, but after several trips to fairburn areas i've still never found a fairburn and i need one. I don't know that area at all --- any suggestions for spots accessible with a worn-out 4wd?

If it rains, it'll be inaccessible for a day or two. The road gets SO greasy. I've been out a couple times this year to the West Buttes, but I haven't been out to the East Buttes yet this year. The road going out is rutted and has been washed out pretty hard. There's several questionable spots. That being said, when I go out to the West Buttes, I go WAY out...where most people don't go. My wife found two beauties out there a week or so ago...one massive one which had lichen on it, so it's been exposed for awhile...not a "new" piece that just got unearthed. Not being coy, but I don't know the road numbers going out there...I just go. Same thing really on the East Buttes...I don't know the numbers, but I go WAY out. When you decide to go, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my phone number...it may be easier to try and talk you through it...

Wed Thur or Friday would probably be my free day this week and weather for Wall looks like solid chance of rain all 3 days so maybe i'll shoot for next week, dangit. Google should get me to the OHV area no problem, and if that's agate country can just scout from there i guess. My biggest worry is always wandering onto private land without realizing it.

You definitely don't want to go by Wall's weather. The Buttes is in a weird spot. Like yesterday they were calling for t-storms, but it all stayed north of I-90 for the most part. We didn't get anything. (The Buttes are 20 minutes to the SE of me...). I'm watching the weather all week to see if the Buttes get anything as Jugglerguy is supposed to come out this weekend and I want to take him out there either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday...just depending if the Buttes get any rain this week. There is some private property south of the East Buttes...but once you get to the entryway, you can go anywhere North and East for the most part. The West Buttes, you'd have to get wicked far out to be concerned with private property. There is some to the north just as you go into the West Buttes...but once you go past the first cattle guard, pretty much everything to the west and south (for quite a ways) is grasslands. If you go to the west buttes, just stay south of the main road (for the most part) and go west. Again, if you wanna give me a buzz, I might be able to talk you through some of it a lot easier! LOL
