Eeeeee, I'm always rushing last minute! I have to leave for work in 7 minutes! And I'm not even dressed yet! I managed to find 4 materials to get fairly solid colored cabs from. A Biggs/Deschutes Jasper, Lepidolite, Lemon/Citron Chrysoprase, and a Wonderstone minus the wonder. The Wonderstone minus the wonder was a bust and would, I think, win an ugliest cab contest. :-) The other three I really like. I'm going to submit the Biggs/Deschutes Jasper even though the Lepidolite is brighter and more cheery. I'm always amazed that stuff can take a polish. Anyway, I just think the Biggs is a better cab. Thanks for looking! *Edit- There are some rockhounds here thinking this is actually Willow Creek Jasper. Thought I should mention before comments here get locked and Iâll look into it further when I get back home⌠đ¤

Thats a beauty khara. Great polish. Please correct me if i'm wrong, but I think that might be Willow Creek Jasper.

realrockhound Thanks! Yours is quite nice too. That color is so vibrant. I have a lot of old stock Biggs and Deschutes from an old Oregon rockhounds collection. And the slab was in with those so thatâs what Iâm thinking. The left side of the slab has the look, but I do see the right side of the slab, where I cut the cab from is very Willow-ish. Do you know when that was discovered? I know Iâve only bought one chunk of it myself, no slabs. Maybe I can do more identifying with the leftover slabâŚ

I donât know when it was discovered, but I know the location. Itâs outside in the foothills of eagle Idaho. Apparently they are still mining periodically. It forms inside massive thundereggs.

Alright khara ...here's the actual winner of the "ugly cab" contest! LOL I had a little window of time to do a cab last weekend, but it took longer to find material to fit the contest parameters than it did to make the cab! LOL It was either this piece of Lepidolite, or Goldstone! Out of the thousands of slabs I have, those were my only choices! LOL - So, I went with the Lepidolite! The dang pink spot showed up outta nowhere! Arghhh!!! Yes, that really is the slabette...color just wouldn't come out on that shot.

khara I an also pretty certain yours is Willow creek. It has been around a long time, just like Biggs.

jasoninsd Wow, I actually really like it! The shape is very different and the polish and color looks really nice. Isnât it funny we both tried a lepidolite? Iâm actually glad now that I didnât go with that option. It was a toss up for me, which one to use. Happy you had time to get a cab done. đ And I agree, itâs possible searching for a useable material took as long or longer than the cabbing!

Rockoonz Hmm⌠đ§ Ok Iâll dig out the rest of the slab and take a look this weekend. And also dig into the boxes again where I found it and look at some of the other slabsâŚ.

I think I've only worked one other piece of Lepidolite...and I'm pretty sure it "orange peeled" like this one did. The stuff is so soft, it probably took 17 minutes to do the cab start to finish! LOL
