Considering a handheld grinder/polisher from Kingsley North. Anyone have any experience with it? Specifically wondering how much it vibrates when you use it; my wrists can't take much abuse these days.

I don’t think she is using this particular brand but maybe ashley has some input. She’s using one of these at her new rock shop job.

We just use an angle grinder with the pads. It works good. It is a bit tiresome on the hands and wrist after a bit, but not horrible. I honestly would spend a few more bucks and get a flat lap if you could. I haven’t used the angle grinder anymore, doesn’t make sense to if you have a flat lap, which they do there. I do know that Rob Jugglerguy uses a wet angle grinder on bigger rocks sometimes.

Oh I have 2 of the Lortone laps but was thinking about one to have something at a more comfortable height that won't walk off the table. I think you're right though; better save the cash for something I actually *need* for my workshop.

I've heard of a lap dance. Is a lap walk for seniors?

Mine does not have very much vibration at all. I really like it. Here's my review of it:

I have the Barranca Diamond version that I bought used with a load of accessories for $20! I haven't used it a lot and haven't used it since last summer. I mostly remember getting very wet.

I have 2 of them that I have not used yet, a BD air operated one that I would need a hefty air compressor to keep up with, and an imported electric one that is used with reportedly little use. For large stuff and for contour polishing they should be pretty good, but from my experience using grinders for steel, which I do a lot due to my questionable welding abilities, they are not your friend if you have hand issues. As far as purchasing, these are mostly used for stonework on counters and whatnot, shopping for tools and sanding discs from sources other than lapidary supply shops will lower your cost quite a bit. The Amazon link at RTH comes to mind...

I have BD pneumatic one that I use to preform spheres and polish large slabs or book ends. When you are using it to preform with a concrete diamond grinding cup, it does a number on my wrists, polishing large flat objects is not that bad and works fast.

How many CFM does it take to keep up with it? My little hotdog and past experience with DA sanders has kept mine in the box, but I poured the slab for the compressor room a few months ago so what should I shop for?

I am in the middle of a remodel and my entire garage is packed in a conex container, hopefully by late Sept I will be able to dig it out and get you the spec's. But, it is a large industrial compressor that I got a yard sale for $40. Take your time on your way back home, 118 today.

AzRockGeek I don't think I'll be ready that fast anyway. We got home Tuesday night, so I'm feeling the pain with you, got another saw not too far from you early this morning.
