Going down in 2 weeks; does anyone have any insight into decent places to rock hunt? Any good spots for Montana agates? Any shops worth checking out for supplies?

What part of MT are you going to be in. MT is a big state with lots of goodies.

Mark K - No real destination in mind; was initially planning to be out on the west side of the state but I'd go just about anywhere if time permitted. Unfortunately I have to postpone the trip until later in the fall but I'm still interested in suggestions.

The farther east you go, the better the MT agate hunting is.
What else you looking for. I got lots of spots.
I only share with long time, proven members like you.

My cousin has a rock shop in Virginia City Montana, will be open for a few weeks yet.... A buddy has a rock shop in Shepherd Montana (not far from Billings) worth stopping at too. Miles City has a few shops and of course Harmons out of Savage Montana..

Hoping middle of September but work will determine that. Fingers crossed.

You want lots of posts about incomplete & abandoned projects and readible brain farts, I’m your gal! I’m looking for almost anything except Montana agate LOL. I’d love to find some “wild” ones but I have so many in my pile already, I wouldn’t be heartbroken to find anything but!

I did a little gold panning south of Thompson falls with a little success, and managed to find some awesome big quartz "sandwiches" in a creek. The Ross(?) cedar forest is worth the visit if you're way west. I have a special love for Montana, and hope to eventually get back some of the family land that got sold off years ago, or get some new of my own. Northwestern Montana has the best big evergreens. Makes for scenic driving.

Now I'm hoping to get down in late September to mid October, depending on work.
Does anyone know of a good place to get a mailing address in northern Montana?
