Who knew that rocks with mica were used for counters? I live near a large counter manufacturer. Until a few years ago they would let people take the scraps. I spent many hours digging through the 25’ by 10’ by 6’ high mounds. Have over 2000 pounds of counter scraps. The largest are about 3’ in size. They receive slabs from all over the world, so I do not know what this is or where it is from. Now, they are crushing all the scraps to use for road gravel. ‘ The mica is clearly visible from the top. It sparkles in various colors, gold, silver, red-orange and blue. There is an end area where I can peel off layers of mica. This scrap is about 4.5" long. There is an area of yellow paint on the right side.

I'm surprised they are bothering to crush it for road gravel! Gravel is pretty cheap. Maybe they just want to get rid of it.
There was a countertop fabricator near me that I used to be able to look thru their scrap piles for awhile, but then they stopped letting people go thru it because they started crushing it up and using it in concrete countertops and the manufactured quartz countertops

The piles of scraps were taking up too much room and prevented people from driving down a couple of roads. Their roads are now very interesting. They have their own, very large crusher.

Oh! Their own roads! I thought you meant they were selling it to the town / county / state for use in public roads! Makes sense for their own use. Especially if they already have a crusher I'm surprised they are bothering to crush it for road gravel! Gravel is pretty cheap. Maybe they just want to get rid of it.
