Damn! Skunk smell is tenacious. I didn’t think Bosco had gotten a direct hit the day that he killed that young skunk, but weeks later, the smell seems like it’s increasing, after I just gave him another bath. At least to my nose, which is extremely sensitive. I know about tomato juice, heard that hydrogen peroxide and baking soda is good but I have not tried either. The night that he killed the skunk a couple weeks ago, I gave him a bath with the shampoo we use to remove chlorine and built up oils in my kids hair. It seem to work pretty good at the time, but the skunk smell has slowly gotten stronger over a couple weeks.
I just finished giving him a bath with the same shampoo plus tea tree shampoo, that has eucalyptus oil. That’s when I noticed that the skunk smell is a bit stronger. It doesn’t really bug anyone else, it’s my hyper sensitive nose that is the issue so I’m curious if anybody here has a good recipe before I give it another try. I’m thinking baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide, mixed with a little dish soap will be the next attempt, unless someone has a better idea.

I had 3 different dogs sprayed by skunks over the years. I haven't found anything that works well to be honest. Tomato juice didn't seem to do anything except make the dog smell like skunk and tomato. I picked up some nature's miracle stuff from Petco and it weakened the smell, but when the dog got wet the order got stronger again. I also tried the peroxide baking soda bit, and it seemed to work similar to the nature's miracle stuff.

My mom had a female Dobie who got sprayed when she was a pup. For the rest of her life that Dobie would run down in the woods every time she smelled a skunk and kill it. One day she came back smelling to high heaven and my mom was out of tomato juice. She thought for a bit and decided to try Scope mouthwash which she had. It worked better than tomato juice and she used it for years. On TV I see ads lately for a product called "Poof" that is supposed to instantly neutralize any foul odor and is safe for pets. If I had a dog I think I'd try that.

I believe the best recipe is baking soda, Dawn dish soap (has to be Dawn) and peroxide. Remember the dish soap because skunk spray is an oily secretion.
We don't get many skunks around here so I haven't had to try it, aim to keep it that way. Dry baking soda rubbed into the dogs coat then brushed out might not get rid of the smell but it should soak up the oil which will definitely help.
Best wishes for a scent free pooch!

Trust me on the formula I posted. I have seen hundreds of trappers say that it took the smell out of their furs and their dogs. Sometimes their own hides too.
If in doubt, search it on trapperman.com

My son and his dog were sprayed recently. He gave the dog a bath and took a shower. He washed all the bedding. The smell permeated the entire house including my bedroom which had a shut door. I opened all the windows and the smell dissipated over time.

There are sprays online. Safe to spray on dog and furniture. Buy a shampoo to remove skunk smell, then spray down dog. Mine got sprayed a month ago. While the shampoo and spray do help, the smell takes about a month to completely go away. The home remedies honestly don’t work that great.

I ended up giving him three separate baths, 1 a week, using different type of shampoos. The shampoo my kid uses to remove chlorine and oils from her hair worked the best. But it did take several weeks for it to finally dissipate. Fortunately, Bosco has extremely short hair with no undercoat. I hate to imagine what it would be like with a heavy furred dog.

Just saw the ad for "Pooph" ... they say it can be bought on line, at CHEWY and at "some" Walmarts
The ads themselves and reviews of same are on YouTube.

Wood and coal ash, it worked great on our dog, when he fought skunks... He would roll in it all night and the orders were gone by morning...
