Hello all. Seeking a little help/guidance here. I have an older LS12 that I have had since the late 80's or early 90's. Neither the wife or I remember when or where we got any of our equipment, except the high speed sander. The motor that I took off was a Dayton #3M098, 4 rpm that is discontinued but replaced with another model that is 4.6 rpm which I don't want because I would like to cut slower. Lortone is unresponsive and I called HP but the girl there said I need to send pictures so they could "analyze" the situation lol. Then I thought.....someone here knows something and can analyze the situation and give me the therapy that I need.
I don't know if that is the original feed motor or not. I do have a 2.2 rpm motor I can mount but will have to make a bigger housing and drill a couple holes, which I don't want to do. I can handle 4 rpm but would prefer to stay at that, or slower if possible because, I have time. If anyone has any information on what motor I can throw in there without too much of a hassle I thank you.

Does that motor directly drive the feed shaft or does it drive the feed shaft with a v-belt like a Royal saw? If it uses a v-belt, just put a little larger pulley on the feed shaft.

Take the motor to wwgrainger. Lortone just buys off the shelf.

They do and thank you. Already ordered a 3.5 rpm.
Don't know how to do multiple quotes so:
quartz: It is direct drive no pullys
rmf: Yea I looked at Granger but.....did not see what I wanted and do not want stock replacement if it is the same rpm.
It might be just me (ok it probably is) but I have been having a hard time finding out much info about the LS12. I think I read somewhere that Lortone sold it HP. Don't really need any info but would be curious to see the different variations they had over the the span of it's life. What is the difference between the LS and LST and did any of these come with speed control or gravity feed.

Dayton 52JE07 if you want CCW Dayton 52JE17 if you want CW Both are 4 rpm
The only speed control the LS12 had was the switch on the left, you had to sit and babysit it, if it ran too fast you flipped the switch to turn the feed motor off and let the saw catch up, then turned it back on.

no problems with the intermittent duty? not sure why that would be for one of these shaded pole motors...

You need continuous duty, intermittent duty will not work, you will get stop and start marks on your slabs.

The gearmotors are made for intermittent operation, but they don't have a heat breaker built on so they will run continuously for a shortened life. Or just die first time out in some cases. That 3.5 said 30 on 30 off so it may last awhile, especially if some additional cooling can be set up. 5 months ain't squat, in fact for a motor like that you should go for decades, usually they fail due to loss of lubrication on the gears, and that is what cooks the motor. Rockyy HP China started making Lortone copies and shut down their saw business intentionally, they bought nothing from Lortone, just moved jobs in Mukilteo WA to China.

catmandewe and Rockoonz thank you both. I did get the Dayton 52JE17, it's a little bigger than the one that came out but workable. I did hear that HP "stole" their saw, or something or other. Not that I really need any info, but there does not seem to be much out there, for their older saws, which I think this is because of the viewing window. Oh and...what is the difference between a LS and LST?

Rockyy the LST had a removable insert that allowed it to be used as a trim saw
